Background: Montessori approach aims to make children discover themselves and achieve their independence and freedom through specially designed materials in a prepared environment that supports the child’s optimal development (physical, mental and social). Aim: To find the evidence for the effectiveness of Montessori on motor development of children with disability Methods: Systematic search was done on the PubMed, Cochrane library, PEDro, Web of science, Scopus and Google Scholar databases till October 2021. Two authors independently assessed the retrieved records and studies against the eligibility criteria specified for this review, then extracted data from the included studies and assessed studies methodological quality by using the methodological index for non-randomized studies (MINOR) scale. Meta-analysis was not appropriate due to the clinical heterogeneity between the included studies. Results: four studies were included; two on children with autism, one study on children with attention deficit hyperactive disorder and another study on children with communication disorders. Quality of the included studies was rated as poor. These included studies have different outcomes including fine motor, gross motor and cognitive skills. Descriptive analysis indicated that Montessori can improve child development. Conclusion: Although no clear evidence was concluded from the reviewed literature, the present evidence promises an effective role of Montessori for improving motor development of children with disability. Well-designed primary studies are needed to find strong evidence.
