This research explores Expo as a mega-event and its relation to urban development. Hence, presents an introduction to Mega-events. Starts by explaining about mega-event and why the World Expo is a mega-event. After that - based on a literature review- the history of the world expos have been discussed. Then the impacts of hosting Expos on the development process are described within a logical framework. The case studies of Hannover 2000, the Aichi 2005, Shanghai 2010, and Milan 2015 EXPO follow. At the end, some recommendations are made, such as the importance of managing clear objectives for the host city; involving various sectors in the planning; forming a well-trained team to coordinate the event; considering post-event use of the Expo area; and integrating all strategic development plans for the city.

يستكشف هذا البحث إكسبو باعتباره حدثًا ضخمًا وعلاقته بالتنمية الحضرية. ثم، يقدم مقدمة قصيرة للأحداث الكبرى. يبدأ بشرح خصائص الحدث الضخم ولماذا المعرض العالمي حدث ضخم. بعد ذلك -بناءً على مراجعة الأدبيات-تمت مناقشة تاريخ المعارض العالمية. ثم يتم وصف تأثيرات المعارض على عملية التطوير ضمن إطار عمل منطقي. لاختبار هذه النظرية، تتبع دراسات الحالة الخاصة بهانوفر٢٠٠٠، و آيشي٢٠٠٥، و شانغهاي ٢٠١٠، و ميلان ٢٠١٥. في النهاية، تم تقديم بعض التوصيات، مثل إدارة أهداف واضحة للمدينة المضيفة؛ إشراك مختلف القطاعات في التخطيط؛ تشكيل فريق مدرب لتنسيق الحدث؛ استخدام منطقة المعرض بعد الحدث ؛ ودمج كافة خطط التنمية الاستراتيجية للمدينة.
