سعت الدراسة لتحقيق هدف رئيسي يتمثل في تناول مدى تطور السياسة الخارجية الأمريكية في منطقة الشرق الأوسط بما فيها تطور دور الأداة العسكرية فيها، وذلك من خلال التركيز على دور المؤسسات الرسمية وغير الرسمية التي تشكل عملية صنع السياسة الخارجية الأمريكية بشكل عام، وتشارك في صياغتها تجاه منطقة الشرق الأوسط بشكل خاص، بجانب تسليط الضوء على دور المؤسسات العسكرية الأمريكية الجديد في العصر الراهن إذ باتت تشكل أحد الأدوات الرئيسية لإرساء السياسة الخارجية الأمريكية تجاه منطقة الشرق الأوسط ولاسيما في ظل سعيها لمكافحة الإرهاب ومنع انتشار أسلحة الدمار الشامل.
اعتمدت الدراسة على منهج صنع القرار للتعرف على مؤسسات صنع القرار الأمريكية على المستوى الإداري ودورها في تشكيل الاستراتيجية الأمريكية تجاه منطقة الشرق الأوسط وتنفيذها في ظل الأهداف التي تتبناها الولايات المتحدة وتسعى إلى تحقيقها.
توصلت الدراسة إلى عدة نتائج، ومن أبرزها أن سياسة دونالد ترامب تجاه منطقة الشرق الأوسط ارتكزت على توجهاته المتصلة بالتركيز على الاعتبارات الاقتصادية وتعظيم حجم المنافع الاقتصادية، كما أن الحكومة الأمريكية انتهجت عدة سياسات في مكافحة الإرهاب في المنطقة ومحاولة منع انتشار أسلحة الدمار الشامل، بالإضافة إلى أن الصراع القائم بين الولايات المتحدة وإيران ينعكس سلبيًا على العراق ولاسيما في ظل ضعف الحكومة العراقية.

The study aimed to achieve a main objective of addressing the evolution of United States of America’s foreign policy in the Middle East, including the evolution of the role of the military tool in the Middle East, by focusing on the role of formal and informal institutions that constitute American foreign policy-making in general, It participates in its formulation towards the Middle East in particular, while highlighting the new role of the United States military institutions in the current era. It has become one of the main tools for establishing United States foreign policy towards the Middle East, particularly in the fight against terrorism and the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
The study relied on a decision-making approach to identify United States decision-making institutions at the administrative level and their role in shaping and implementing American strategy towards the Middle East in the light of the goals the United States embraces and seeks to achieve.
The study reached several results, most notably that Donald Trump's policy towards the Middle East was based on his orientations to focus on economic considerations and maximize economic benefits. The American Government has also pursued several policies to combat terrorism in the region and prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. In addition, the conflict between the United States and Iran has a negative impact on Iraq, especially considering the weakness of the Iraqi government.
