The present paper investigated the use of verbal impoliteness in the movie Snowpiercer. It used a mixed design, qualitative quantitative research design to describe and analyze the various strategies of verbal impoliteness. Selected sections of the discourse wereanalyzed using Culpeper’s (1996) model of impoliteness strategies as well as Bousfield’s model of impoliteness. The data in this research is in the form of impolite utterances used by the characters during their conversation in the movie Snowpiercer. By analyzing the discourse inSnowpiercer, the researcher dwells upon the dramatic function of verbal impoliteness; namely how impoliteness serves in the development of the characters and plot. Besides, the reasons behind using these impolite utterances were identified and characters’ response were investigated.The researcher also explored the relationship between power and impoliteness and how it affected the characters’ choice of impoliteness strategies. A total of 72 instances of impoliteness strategies were identified in the movie. The majority of these strategies, 89% were derived from Culpeper’s 1996 model, while the remaining 11% were from Bousfield’s 2008 model of impoliteness. All the types of responses stated by Bousfield 2008 to impolite utterances were used in the movie 27 times. Further, the dramatic function of impoliteness in advancing the plot and character development was clear. The use of impolite language by the characters created moments of confrontation that drove the narrative forward and deepened character representation.

تناولت هذه الدراسة استخدام عدم الياقة اللفظية في فيلم قاهرالثلج.استخدمت الدراسة تصميمًا مختلطًا للبحث، يتضمن المنهج النوعي والكمّي، بهدف وصف وتحليل استراتيجيات عدم الياقة اللفظية المختلفة. تم تحليل أجزاء مختارة من الخطاب باستخدام نموذج كالبير (1996) لاستراتيجيات لعدم الياقة اللفظية ، بالإضافة إلى نموذج بوسفيلد (2008) لعدم الياقة اللفظية. البيانات في هذا البحث تتكون من تعبيرات غير لائقة استخدمها الشخصيات أثناء حوارهم في فيلم قاهر الثلج من خلال تحليل الخطاب في الفيلم، تناولت الباحثة الوظيفة الدرامية لعدم الياقة اللفظية ؛ أي كيف يسهم عدم الياقة اللفظية في تطوير الشخصيات والأحداث. علاوة على ذلك، تم تحديد الأسباب وراء استخدام هذه التعبيرات غير الائقة وتم التحقيق في ردود فعل الشخصيات. كما استكشفت الباحثة العلاقة بين السلطة عدم الياقة اللفظية وكيف أثرت على اختيار الشخصيات لاستراتيجيات عدم الياقة اللفظية. تم تحديد 72 حالة من استراتيجيات عدم الياقة اللفظية في الفيلم. كانت الغالبية العظمى من هذه الاستراتيجيات، بنسبة 89%، مأخوذة من نموذج كالبير لعام 1996، بينما الـ 11% المتبقية كانت من نموذج بوسفيلد لعام 2008. تم استخدام جميع أنواع الردود على عدم اللياقة اللفظية التي ذكرها بوسفيلد (2008) على التعبيرات غير المهذبة في الفيلم 27 مرة. علاوة على ذلك، كانت الوظيفة الدرامية لقلة الأدب في تقدم الحبكة وتطوير الشخصيات واضحة. أدى استخدام اللغة غير الائقة من قبل الشخصيات إلى خلق لحظات من المواجهة التي دفعت السرد إلى الأمام وعمّقت تمثيل الشخصيات.
