In recent years, there has been an increasing emphasis on addressing poverty,
particularly in developing countries, following the United Nations' declaration of the
Sustainable Development Goals in 2015. This thesis applies the Alkire and Foster
methodology to construct a multidimensional index for assessing poverty among
young people in Egypt. The study also employs parsimony analysis to evaluate the
complexity of the index and uses sensitivity analysis to assess its robustness.

The analysis is based on data from 2014 Survey of Young People in Egypt
SYPE, focusing on poverty from a deprivation perspective. The thesis is structured
into six chapters. The first chapter presents the introduction, research objectives, and
the structure of the study. Chapter two reviews the relevant literature and outlines the
conceptual framework. Chapter three details the data source, data preparation, and
methodology, including the proposed Multidimensional Poverty Index
(MPI_YOUTH). Chapter four presents the results of the MPI_YOUTH for Egyptian
youth in 2014. Chapter five examines the parsimony and robustness of the index.
Finally, chapter six provides the thesis conclusion and offers recommendations based
on the findings.

لطالما كان قياس الفقر من خلال نهج الحرمان متعدد الأبعاد مكملاً للطرق التقليدية القائمة على الدخل. وقد قام الباحثون بتكييف مؤشر الفقر متعدد الأبعاد الأصلي (MPI) ليعكس بشكل أفضل الخصائص الفريدة للدول المختلفة، مما أدى إلى تطوير مؤشرات وطنية تختلف من حيث المؤشرات، والأوزان، ومستويات الفقر.
تمثل هذه الدراسة المحاولة الأولى لتطوير مؤشر الفقر متعدد الأبعاد للشباب في مصر (MDPI)، باستخدام الأفراد وليس الأسر كوحدة للتحليل، من خلال تطبيق منهجية ألكير وفوستر. تستند بيانات بناء المؤشر إلى أحدث مسح للشباب في مصر (SYPE، 2014)، مع التركيز على الأفراد الذين تتراوح أعمارهم بين 14 و35 عامًا، والذين يمثلون جزءًا كبيرًا من سكان مصر. يتكون المؤشر من أربعة أبعاد: الإسكان والخدمات الأساسية، التعليم، العمل والحماية الاجتماعية، والصحة والعنف، ويتم تقييم كل بعد من خلال مؤشرات محددة تعكس جوانب مختلفة من الفقر. تستكشف الدراسة أيضًا بساطة المؤشرات باستخدام طرق مختلفة للارتباط، كما تقيم مدى ثبات المؤشر من خلال تحليل الحساسية.
تشير النتائج بشكل عام إلى أن حوالي 54% من الشباب كانوا يعانون من الفقر متعدد الأبعاد في عام 2014 في مصر، مع وجود فروقات كبيرة بين المناطق الريفية والحضرية. ويظهر التحليل الإحصائي للمؤشر أنه يعكس حالة الفقر بشكل جيد، مع الحفاظ على بساطة نسبية وثبات عالٍ عند تغير الأوزان والمؤشرات ومستوى الفقر.
