An Er: Doped fiber laser (EDFL) was chosen for its minimal components and efficiency. EDFL were pumped by a fiber coupled, single mode laser diode oscillates at 980nm. Femtosecond pulses were achieved by saturable absorption mode-locking due to nonlinear polarization rotation in the fiber
