Ridge regression handles multicollinearity problems by introducing a biased parameter that is called ridge parameter ; it pulls the estimators away from zero as well as their standard errors in order to reach acceptable results . Selection of the ridge parameter was done using several subjective and objective techniques that are concerned with certain criteria
