ﺃﻭﻀﺤﺕ ﺍﻟﺩﺭﺍﺴﺔ ﻤﺩﻯ ﺃﻫﻤﻴﺔ ﻜﺘﺎﺒﺎﺕ ﺍﻟﺭﺤﺎﻟﺔ ﻤﻥ ﺍﻟﻨﺎﺤﻴﺔ ﺍﻟﺘﺎﺭﻴﺨﻴﺔ، ﻓﺘﺒﺩﻭ ﺍﻟﻘﻴﻤﺔ ﺍﻟﺤﻘﻴﻘﻴﺔ، ﺍﻟﺘﻰ ﺍﺴﺘﻤﺩﺕ ﻤﻨﻬﺎ ﻜﺘﺎﺒﺎﺕ ﺭﺤﺎﻟﺔ ﻫﺫﺍ ﺍﻟﻘﺭﻥ، ﻭﻤﻥ ﺃﺘﻰ ﺒﻌﺩﻫﻡ ﺃﻫﻤﻴﺘﻬﺎ، ﻫﻭ ﺤﺭﺼﻬﻡ ﺍﻟﺒﺎﻟﻎ ﻋﻠـﻰ ﺭﺼﺩ ﻭ ﺘﺴﺠﻴل ﻜل ﻤﺎ ﻫﻭ ﺠﺩﻴﺩ ﻭ ﻏﺭﻴﺏ، ﻤﻥ ﻤﻅﺎﻫﺭ ﺍﻟﺤﻴـﺎﺓ ﺍﻟﻴﻭﻤﻴـﺔ ﻭﺍﻟﻌـﺎﺩﺍﺕ ﻭ ﺍﻟﺘﻘﺎﻟﻴـﺩ ﺍﻻﺠﺘﻤﺎﻋﻴﺔ، ﻭ ﺍﻟﻁﻘﻭﺱ ﻭﺍﻟﺸﻌﺎﺌﺭ ﺍﻟﺩﻴﻨﻴﻪ، ﺒﻤﺎ ﻟﻡ ﻴﺄﻟﻔﻭﻩ ﻭﻴﻌﺘﺎﺩﻭﺍ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻓﻰ ﺒﻴﺌﺎﺘﻬﻡ ﺍﻷﺼﻠﻴﺔ، ﻭﻴﺭﺍﻩ ﺍﻷﻫﺎﻟﻲ ﺍﻟﻤﻌﺎﺼﺭﻴﻥ ﺃﻤﺭﺍ ﻋﺎﺩﻴﺎ ﻻ ﻴﺴﺘﺤﻕ ﺍﻟﻜﺘﺎﺒﺔ ﻋﻨﻪ، ﺃﻭ ﺍﻟﺘﺄﺭﻴﺦ ﻟﻪ. ﺘﻠﻙ ﻫﻰ ﺍﻟﻨﺎﺤﻴﺔ ﺍﻟﺘﻰ ﺍﻨﻔﺭﺩ ﺒﻬﺎ ﻫﺅﻻﺀ، ﻭ ﺠﻌﻠﺕ ﻤﻨﻬﻡ ﻤﺼﺩﺭﹰﺍ ﺃﻭﻟﻴﹰﺎ ﻻ ﻏﻨﻰ ﻋﻨﻪ ﻟﺩﺭﺍﺴـﺔ ﺍﻟﺘـﺎﺭﻴﺦ ﺍﻟﺤﻀـﺭﻯ ﻟﻠﻘـﺎﻫﺭﺓ، ﻭﺍﻻﺠﺘﻤﺎﻋﻰ ﺍﻟﻌﺎﻡ ﻟﻠﻘﺎﻫﺭﺓ ﻭﻤﺼﺭ ﺒﻭﺠﻪ ﻋﺎﻡ، ﻭﺫﻟﻙ ﻓﻰ ﻀﻭﺀ ﺭﺅﻴﺘﻬﻡ ﻟﻠﻘﺎﻫﺭﺓ، ﻭﻤﺼﺭ ﻭﺃﻫﻠﻬـﺎ، ﻭﻤﻘﺎﺭﻨﺎﺘﻬﻡ ﻟﻬﺎ ﺒﺎﻟﻤﺩﻥ ﻭ ﺍﻟﻌﻭﺍﺼﻡ ﺍﻷﻭﺭﻭﺒﻴﺔ ﺍﻟﺘﻰ ﻋﺎﺸﻭﺍ ﻓﻴﻬﺎ ﺍﻭ ﺯﺍﺭﻭﻫـﺎ . ﻜـﺫﻟﻙ ﺃﻭﻀـﺤﺕ ﺍﻟﺩﺭﺍﺴﺔ ﺍﻟﺭﺅﻴﺔ ﺍﻻﺴﺘﺸﺭﺍﻗﻴﺔ ﻟﻬﺅﻻﺀ ﺍﻟﺭﺤﺎﻟﺔ ﻭ ﻜﻴﻑ ﺴﺎﻫﻤﺕ ﻜﺘﺎﺒﺎﺘﻬﻡ ﻓﻰ ﺘﺸﻜﻴل ﺍﻟﺭﺅﻴﺔ ﺍﻟﻔﺭﻨﺴﻴﺔ ﻟﻠﺸﺭﻕ ﻤﻤﺎ ﺴﺎﻋﺩ ﺒﻌﺩ ﺫﻟﻙ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻨﺠﺎﺡ ﺍﻟﺤﺭﻜﺔ ﺍﻻﺴﺘﻌﻤﺎﺭﻴﺔ ﻓﻰ ﺍﻟﺸـﺭﻕ.ﻜﻤﺎ ﺭﺼـﺩﺕ ﺍﻟﺩﺭﺍﺴـﺔ ﻁﺒﻴﻌﺔ ﺍﻟﻌﻼﻗﺔ ﻭ ﺍﻻﺭﺘﺒﺎﻁ ﺍﻟﻭﺜﻴﻕ ﺒﻴﻥ ﺍﻟﺭﺤﺎﻟﺔ ﺍﻟﻔﺭﻨﺴﻴﻴﻥ ﻭ ﺭﺠﺎل ﺍﻟﺴﻴﺎﺴﺔ ﻓﻰ ﻓﺭﻨﺴﺎ ﻭ ﺨﺎﺼﺔ ﺍﻥ ﺒﻌﻀﺎ ﻤﻥ ﻫﺅﻻﺀ ﻭﻜﻠﺕ ﻟﻪ ﻤﻬﺎﻡ ﺭﺴﻤﻴﻪ ﺍﻭ ﺸﺒﻪ ﺭﺴﻤﻴﻪ ﻓﻰ ﺯﻴﺎﺭﺘﻬﻡ ﺍﻟﻰ ﻤﺼﺭ . ﻭ ﻫﻜﺫﺍ ﺤﺎﻭﻟﻨﺎ ﺒﻴﺎﻥ ﺍﻷﻫﻤﻴﺔ ﺍﻟﻤﺘﻌﺩﺩﺓ ﻟﻜﺘﺎﺒﺎﺕ ﺍﻟﺭﺤﺎﻟﺔ ﻓﻰ ﺘﺎﺭﻴﺦ ﻤﺼﺭ ﻭ ﺍﻟﺸﺭﻕ ﺒﻭﺠﻪ ﻋﺎﻡ ﻓﻰ ﻫﺫﻩ ﺍﻟﻔﺘﺭﺓ ﺍﻟﻤﻬﻤﺔ ﻓﻰ ﺘﺎﺭﻴﺦ ﺍﻟﻤﻨﻁﻘﺔ.
