Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Dermatology and Venereology Summary: Background: Mycosis fungoides (MF) is the most common form of cutaneous T-cell lymphomas. Evidence has emerged suggesting an association between MF and metabolic risk factors. Objectives: To investigate the association between MF and a number of metabolic risk factors. Methods: Thirty MF patients and 39 controls were recruited and assessed for metabolic risk factors including body mass index, waist circumference, blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, dyslipidaemia, serum leptin level and insulin resistance. Results: All of the investigated risk factors were found to be higher in MF patients compared to the control group, but the difference was statistically significant for only serum leptin level (OR=1.09, P=0.03), dyslipidaemia (OR=5.54, P=0.02) and waist circumference in males (OR=1.14, P<0.01). Conclusion: This study suggests that there is a possible increase in metabolic risk factors in MF patients. Larger studies are required to confirm this relation
