Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Mechanical Power Engineering Summary: In this study, a solar assisted centralized heating and cooling system is proposed to meet the heating and cooling loads of a hospital. The system comprised a parabolic trough collectors array, heat exchangers, thermal energy storage tanks, boilers, and a heat-driven absorption chiller. The proposed system is modelled and coded on Matlab®. The current study considered four cases. The first case investigated using the available roof area to cover the thermal load imposed by the heating demand only. The second case investigated using the roof area to cover the total thermal load, which is imposed by the heating demand and the chillers covering the cooling demand. The third case examined using extra land to cover the total thermal load. The last case investigated using the roof area to cover the total thermal load of the fifth floor only, which is imposed by the heating demand and the chillers covering the cooling demand. Economic analysis is performed to inspect the feasibility of using the centralized system in each case
