Society's deep - rooted tendency to regard men and women as opposites or respective embodiments of consciousness and unconsciousness , mind and heart and creativity and passivity , led to the appearance of a misogynistic streak that is to be found in the work of many playwrightsThis streak is bound also to the undeniable fact that men cannot do without womenNature has always been associated with womenAll human beings depend on nature for their survival , and as Carol MacCormack observes , Trying to escape from something we are dependent on breeds a love - hate relationship with it (Kramarae 1438) The same applies to men's dependency on women and therein lies why men perceive women as paralyzing forces
