This study attempted to carry out a discursive analysis of presidential speeches by American Presidents Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump on immigrants in order to bring to light the power of discourse that contributes to the reflection and construction of representations of immigrants in the United States. The study focused on the United States’ presidents, as the United States is considered the nation with the world’s largest number of immigrants. Moreover, this study aimed to present the ideologies of the two presidents concerning immigrants and how they are reflected in their manipulation of language use. This study employed a mixed research design that implemented Fairclough’s three-dimensional model as framework of analysis for its provision of multiple layers of analytic entry. The results of the study showed that Reagan and Trump utilized distinct linguistic strategies to pursue their respective objectives, leveraging their authority and influence to shape the attitudes of both the governed and policymakers concerning immigration, guided by their rooted ideologies, ultimately yielding significant impacts on people's lives. The reason behind the choice of the two presidents was due to their opposed political ideologies concerning immigration legislation. Through their linguistic choices, Reagan employed the discourses of welcoming immigrants, the universality of the immigration issue, and the persecution of immigrants, where Trump employed the discourse of "Us" versus "Them," and the ehumanization of immigrants.
