Aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the colour match and translucency, and clinical effectiveness of novel self-adhesive composite hybrid (Surefil One, Dentsply) versus conventional composite (VOCO, Grandio) in restoring carious primary teeth.
Material and method: This is the first part of a project conducted by two postgraduate students. 40 pediatric patients aged 4-7 years received composite restoration for treating carious primary molars using a split-mouth design, with a total number of 80 restorations. Each participant received one of both tested materials. restorations were evaluated using FDI criteria at baseline, 3, and 6-month intervals. Categorical data were analyzed using Fisher’s exact and Chi-square tests for inter and intragroup comparisons respectively.
Result: Thirty-two patients (64 restorations) were available for the 3-month recall, while thirty-three patients (66 restorations) were evaluated at 6-month recall. In terms of esthetic properties, (Surefil One; A2) performed significantly worse than (Grandio; A2) in both color match and translucency across all time points (P-value < 0.05). However, all restorations received clinically acceptable FDI scores, with no significant differences observed between (Surefil One) and (Grandio) in most FDI criteria throughout the follow-up period.
Conclusion: Surefil One exhibited significantly lower, but clinically fully acceptable esthetic properties as compared to Grandio. Despite both materials showing satisfactory clinical performance over a 6-month period, Surefil One offers the benefits of a simpler and quicker application process, making it a favorable choice for managing child cooperation and simplifying restorative procedures. إن التطوير المستمر لمواد الحشوات التي تشابه لون الأسنان لتلبية الطلب المتزايد على الترميم الجمالي بخصائص متينة وبسيطة سريريًا يؤدي إلى إدخال مواد جديدة إلى الأسواق بين الحين والآخر..
