Background: Breast Cancer Related Lymphoedema (BCRL) is one of the most common
postoperative complications, especially after mastectomy. Since lymphoedema is
essentially incurable, many patients ask for complementary therapy beyond diuretics use
and treatment of the underlying disease. Reflexology lymphatic drainage (RLD) activates
lymphatic zones on the feet with the aim of working with lymphatic and renal systems
through identified areas on the feet, so RLD can improve lymphoedema. Aim: To evaluate
the effect of reflexology lymphatic drainage on quality of life and lymphoedema among
patients post mastectomy. Design: Interrupted time series was used in the study. Sample: A
convenient sample of 60 female patients who diagnosed as having unilateral lymphoedema
post mastectomy who fulfill the inclusion criteria for a period of six consecutive months
was recruited in the study and divided into study and control group 30/each. Tools: Three
tools were utilized to collect data pertinent to the study: (a) Personal and Medical Data
Form (b) A non-stretch measurement tape to measure circumference of both arms (affected
and not affected). (c) Lymphoedema quality of life (LYMQOL). Results: Based on the
demonstrated value of the posttest measurements, there was a significant improvement in
the study group for the affected arm circumferences (wrist, elbow, and axilla) compared to
the control group, with P ≤ 0.05. For the non-affected limb measurements, there were no
significant differences between the study and control groups and the intervention had a
positive and statistically significant impact on various dimensions of quality of life for the
study group. Conclusion: The reflexology lymphatic drainage was considered to be a less
invasive with low cost and had a substantial effect on reducing breast cancer related
lymphoedema. Recommendations: Conducting further studies to assess and compare long
term effect of using RLD with breast cancer related lymphoedema patients. المقدمة:الوذمة الليمفاوية المرتبطة بسرطان الثدي (BCRL) هي واحدة من أكثر المضاعفات الشائعة بعد الجراحة، خاصة بعد استئصال الثدي. نظرًا لأن الوذمة الليمفاوية غير قابلة للعلاج بشكل أساسي، يطلب العديد من المرضى العلاج التكميلي بجانب استخدام مدرات البول وعلاج المرض الأساسي. التصريف الليمفاوي بالضغط الانعكاسي (RLD) ينشط المناطق الليمفاوية على القدمين بهدف العمل مع النظامين الليمفاوي والكلوي من خلال المناطق المحددة على القدمين، لذا يمكن أن يحسن RLD الوذمة الليمفاوية. الهدف: تقييم تأثير التصريف الليمفاوي بالضغط على القدمين على جودة الحياة والوذمة الليمفاوية لدى المرضى بعد استئصال الثدي. التصميم: إستٌخدم في الدراسة تصميم شبه تجريبي. العينة: تم انضمام عينة ملائمة من 60 مريضة تم تشخيصهن بالإصابة بالوذمة الليمفاوية أحادية الجانب بعد استئصال الثدي، واللواتي استوفين معايير الإدراج لمدة ستة أشهر متتالية، وتم تقسيمهن إلى مجموعة الدراسة ومجموعة الضبط بواقع 30 لكل منهما. الأدوات: تم استخدام ثلاث أدوات لجمع البيانات المتعلقة بالدراسة: (أ) استمارة البيانات الشخصية والطبية (ب) شريط قياس غير قابل للتمدد لقياس محيط كلا الذراعين (المصابة وغير المصابة). (ج) جودة الحياة المرتبطة بالوذمة الليمفاوية. (LYMQOL) النتائج: بناءً على القيمة التي أظهرتها قياسات ما بعد الاختبار، كان هناك تحسن كبير في مجموعة الدراسة في محيطات الذراع المتأثرة (المعصم، الكوع، والإبط) مقارنةً بمجموعة الضبط P ≤ 0.05. بالنسبة لقياسات الأطراف غير المتأثرة، لم تكن هناك فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية بين مجموعتي الدراسة والضبط، وكان للتدخل تأثير إيجابي وذو دلالة إحصائية على مختلف أبعاد جودة الحياة لمجموعة الدراسة. الخاتمة: تم اعتبار التصريف الليمفاوي بالانعكاسات بأنه أقل تدخلاً وبتكلفة منخفضة وكان له تأثير كبير في تقليل الوذمة الليمفاوية المرتبطة بسرطان الثدي. التوصيات: إجراء دراسات إضافية لتقييم ومقارنة التأثير طويل الأمد لاستخدام التصريف الليمفاوي بالضغط الانعكاسي مع مرضى الوذمة الليمفاوية المرتبطة بسرطان الثدي
