Friction stir welding (FSW) is a solid state joining process . Several FSW tools have been used to fabricate a number of joints in order to obtain a tool with which a sound weld can be produced . It was found that the FSW tool with tapered cone pin and concave shoulder with diameter equal to four times the plate thickess is suitable to produce a sound weld
