Quantum computing has introduced itself in the past decade as a potential computational alternative that can , in certain cases , strongly outperform classical computers with exponential increase in performance A comprehensive , although not detailed , review is given in this thesis for the different approaches to physically implement a quantum bit (qubit) which is the basis of quantum computations , with special emphasis on semiconductor qubit approaches The recent design of Enhancement Mode Quantum Dot (EMQD) Single Electron Transistor (SET) is introduced , the use if InAs / GaSb complex quantum well structure is analyzed and modifications are suggested to reduce electron hole spin interaction that may represent an extra source for spin decoherence
