There is growing awareness of the effects of diabetes mellitus on the central nervous system and susceptibility of some diabetic patients to epilepsy , hence the necessity to administer an antiepileptic drug simultaneously with an oral hypoglycemic agent Drug - drug interactions were investigated using normal and streptozotocin (60 mg / kg , ip) - induced diabetic rats that were treated with gliclazide (10 mg / kg , po) as an oral hypoglycemic agent , phenytoin sodium salt (50 mg / kg , ip) and gabapentin (25 mg / kg , ip) as antiepileptic drugs
