Post-partum hemorrhage is a significant cause of maternal morbidity and mortality. Most post-partum hemorrhages are caused by uterine atony and occur in the immediate post-partum period. The etiologies of primary PPH are most easily understood as abnormalities of one or more of four basic processes.
