The present study was performed on 40 selected cases of invasive ductal carcinoma; No special type (NST), selected randomly from Kasr Al Aini University Hospital. The aim of this study was to evaluate expression of cyclooxygenase -2 (COX-2) in invasive duct carcinoma of the breast (NST) and to correlate its expression with the available clinicopathological properties of cases of invasive duct carcinoma of the breast (NST) to assess the probability of using it as a prognostic marker. Expression of COX-2 using immunohistochemical staining was detected in 100% of the breast carcinoma samples. Lymph node status was highly significantly correlated with COX-2 overexpression, T stage in tumors were significantly correlated with COX-2 overexpression and there was inverse correlation between COX2 versus increasing age. No statistical significant correlation could be detected between COX-2 stain versus grade and tumor site. These results may suggest that COX-2 overexpression is associated with aggressive features and poor prognostic parameters in breast cancer
