The gilthead sea bream was sub typed as hermaphrodite species During the male phase the bisexual gonads (ovo - testis) were formed of functional testicular part and nonfunctional ovarian part During spermatogenesis stage , the testis composed of large number of testicular lobules filled with germinal cysts Spermatozoa were the smallest cells of the spermatogenic lineage They had kidney shaped nuclei with uniform density and no acrosome The middle piece contained one large mitochondrion During spawning stage the testes were shifted from sperm production to sperm storage The testes in post spawning were found to have a severe degree of vacuolation During the resting stage , spermatogonia were the main cell type in the germinal compartment of the testis
