Geostatistical Seismic Inversion (GSI) has proven to be an effective tool for reservoir characterization of Sapphire field which is located offshore in the deep water of the Nile delta, Egypt. The assessment of facies distribution and connectivity in Sapphire field is a very challenging task because the field is not only characterized by the presence of thin bedded reservoir facies, which are typically beyond seismic resolution, but also the reservoir is highly compartmentalized by numerous extensional faults. The contribution of thin bedded sands to reservoir connectivity and productivity in Sapphire field was poorly understood until geostatistical inversion has been applied on the field. GSI technique has also provided useful information on reservoir connectivity scenarios by generating multiple high frequency realizations of inverted elastic properties, which are then classified into facies probabilities and connected volumes
