| Summary, etc. | Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Minds in<br/>Motion (MiM) program on vestibular function and balance in children with<br/>hemiplegia and also to determine the relationship between vestibular function and<br/>balance capabilities in these children. Methods: Thirty children with hemiplegic<br/>CP of both genders with age ranging from 6 to 12 years were randomly divided<br/>into two groups of equal number. Control group received specially designed<br/>physical therapy program and study group received MiM vestibular exercise<br/>program in addition to specially designed physical therapy program given to the<br/>control group. Both groups received the treatment program 3 times / week for 3<br/>successive months. Assessment of vestibular function was conducted using<br/>cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (cVEMPs) device. Dynamic<br/>balance testing was carried out using biodex balance system (BBS). Assessment<br/>was performed before and after 3 months of intervention. Results: The results of<br/>the present study showed statistically significant improvement within both groups<br/>when comparing their pre and post-treatment values of stability indices and<br/>VEMP amplitude. Post-treatment significant improvement was also observed in<br/>the amplitude asymmetry ratio (AAR) in the study group compared with the pretreatment mean values while no significant change was detected in the control<br/>group. Also, no significant changes were detected in P1, and N1 latencies in both<br/>groups after treatment. Statistically significant differences were observed in all<br/>measured variables between the two groups in favor of the study group while there<br/>was no significant difference between the two groups when comparing the posttreatment mean values of P1 and N1 latencies. Non statistically significant<br/>correlation was found between VEMP findings and stability indices in both<br/>groups. Conclusion: Minds in motion program is an effective modality that<br/>can be used for improving the vestibular functions and balance capabilities in<br/>children with hemiplegic CP |
| 520 #3 - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. |
