| Summary, etc. | Venipuncture is one of the most common iatrogenic painful and fearful procedures performed on children in and out of hospital. Therefore, interventions aimed at limiting this unpleasant and distressing experience are widely and strongly recommended. Pain and fear management is even more essential because it may modify children's memory for procedural pain, fear and the subsequent acceptance of later health care related painful interventions. (American Academy of Pediatrics Committee, 2019).
Distraction is the most studied psychological technique to relieve venipuncture-related pain and distress, with strong evidence supporting its efficacy in children. Distraction is the most studied psychological technique to relieve venipuncture-related pain and fear, with strong evidence supporting its efficacy in children and adolescents (Uman et al., 2018). Distraction affects the perception of pain both indirectly (attention capabilities are finite and distraction can consume some of them, leaving less focus available to perceive pain) and directly distraction interferes with neuronal activity associated with pain which is modulated by a gating mechanism influenced by cognitive processes. While passive distraction‘s techniques have been investigated in many studies, that show that this kind of pain management interferes with pain perception thus modifying the quality of pain itself, (Savic, Garcia-Falqueras & Swaab, 2019). |
| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc.
