| Summary, etc. | Background: Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) is considered an important tool to prevent muscle mass and strength loss in patients admitted to intensive care units (ICU). Purpose: to determine the effect of neuromuscular electric stimulation on muscle strength and mass of sarcopenia in critically ill patients. Patient, material, and methods: Forty Participants aging from 50 to 65 years from both sexes admitted to intensive care units of El-Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan Hospital, Cairo, Egypt, they were randomly divided into 2 groups: study group (A) 20 and control group (B) 20 patients. In study group (A) patients received neuromuscular electrical stimulation session for 60 minutes daily from 1st day admission until discharge (30 minutes upper limb & 30 minutes lower limb). Both groups (A) and (B) received ROM strength exercise 10 – 20 repetitions according to 1RM for the muscles of both upper and lower limbs for 30 minutes daily with rest interval. Measurements were conducted before starting the treatment on admission and before discharge. Method of Evaluation: Lafayette dynamometer and creatinine. Results: There was a significant increase in creatinine level and muscle strength post treatment for both groups with prominent in study group more than control group. Conclusion: neuromuscular electric stimulation improves muscle strength and mass in sarcopenic patients |

| Summary, etc. | الخلفية: يعتبر التحفيز الكهربائي العصبي العضلي أداة مهمة لمنع فقدان الكتلة العضلية وقوتها لدى المرضى الحالات الحرجة.الغرض: تحديد تأثير التحفيز الكهربائي العصبي العضلي على قوة العضلات و كتلتها للساركوبينا لدي مرضي الحالات الحرجة.المرضى والمواد والأساليب : تم اختيار أربعين مريضا تتراوح أعمارهم من 50 إلى 65 عامًا من الجنسين في وحدات العناية المركزة بمستشفى الشيخ زايد آل نهيان ، القاهرة ، مصر ، تم تقسيمهم عشوائيًا إلى مجموعتين: المجموعة الدراسية (أ)20 مريض تلقوا تحفيزًا كهربائيًا لمدة 60 دقيقة يوميا ،. كما تلقوا تمرين تقوية 10-20 مرة. وحصلت المجموعة الضابطة (ب)20 مريض على تمارين تقوية 10-20 تكرار حسب تكرار واحد كحد أقصى لعضلات كلا الطرفين العلوي والسفلي لمدة 30 دقيقة يوميا. جريت القياسات عند الدخول وقبل الخروج من وحدة الرعاية المركزة . أجريت الدراسة في الفترة من يونيو 2022 إلى ديسمبر 2022. طريقة التقييم: مقياس قوة لافاييت والكرياتينين. النتائج: كانت هناك زيادة ذات دلالة إحصائية في مستوى الكرياتينين وقوة العضلات بعد العلاج لكلا المجموعتين مع ظهور بارز في مجموعة الدراسة (أ) أكثر من مجموعة التحكم (ب).الخلاصة: التحفيز الكهربائي العصبي العضلي يحسن قوة العضلات والكتلة لدى مرضى الساركوبين. |
