Summary, etc. The social media networks have been taking over our personal and professional lives in all aspects of life; one of these aspects is following the news. Nowadays, press institutions are paying due attention to the utilization of social media platforms in disseminating news stories and current events. The institutions are competing with each other to create more creative and updated content to attract a larger audience. Reviewing the literature showed a shortage in studies that combine studying both the communicator and the audience regarding the utilization of social media platforms in news consumption. Concerning this, the researcher will study the role of social media editors in Egyptian and British press institutions and the skills they must acquire to create content, in addition to the challenges they face as social media editors. The researcher will also explore the audience's uses, preferences, and habits while following the news on the social media platforms, as well as their degree of trust in the journalistic content presented and their suggestions for improving the content on the social media. The researcher relied on the gatekeeping theory to study the communicator, while the media richness theory was used to study the audience of social media. Moreover, the researcher used a multi-method approach by conducting in-depth interviews with 22 of the social media editors of Egyptian and British press institutions, in addition to conducting two online focus groups with the Egyptian followers of the news pages on social media and a survey distributed among 200 Egyptian and British respondents. The in-depth interviews revealed that SMEs pay attention to audience comments, increasing engagement and interaction with the audience. The focus groups' and the field study's results showed a significant reliance on social media as a source of news (68%) for both Egyptian and British audiences, with Facebook being the most popular platform (81.5%).
Participants mentioned political news and visual content as their preferred news type and format on social media. The results have also shown that following current events and trending topics and understanding the causes of societal conflicts and crises are the main reasons for following the news on social media. The ability to educate the audience about events and the enormous abundance of information were the main reasons for the sample's trust in the journalistic content on social media, with 90.1 and 89.2 total weights, respectively.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
