Summary, etc. Background: Laser assisted hatching (LAH) is a technique used in assisted reproductive
technology to increase the chances of successful pregnancy. Thinning Laser-assisted
hatching (T-LAH) and drilling Laser-assisted hatching (D-LAH) are the two LAH
techniques that are most frequently utilized in clinical practice to increase the implantation
rate in patients. However, an insufficient number of studies have directly compared T-LAH
and D-LAH using the same methods. Therefore, we compared the effects of T-LAH and D-
LAH on clinical outcomes.
Purpose: The current study aimed to compare the effect of zona pellucida thinning and
drilling on the clinical outcome during laser assisted hatching of human embryos in ICSI.
Methods: The participants of this study were divided into two hundred fresh embryo transfer
cycles and two hundred frozen embryo transfer cycles and in each group laser assisted
hatching was used as follow (100 laser assisted thinning and 100 laser assisted drilling). All
study participants were undergone controlled ovarian stimulation by GnRH agonist long
protocol after full history taking, physical examination, basic infertility tests and TVUS.
Results: Regarding demographic data and characteristics of the studied patients of current
study, there was no statistically significant difference found between the studied groups
regarding basal demographic data as age, BMI and characteristics of the studied patients as
duration of infertility, reason of infertility, number of collected and fertilized oocytes.
There was no statistically significant difference between the two studied groups (T-LAH and
D-LAH) regarding chemical pregnancy, clinical pregnancy and implantation rate even when
using either fresh embryos or frozen embryos for transfer.
Comparisons of clinical outcomes among patients of different ages revealed that the rates of
implantation and clinical pregnancy were not significantly different in patients aged < 35
years in the T-LAH group compared to those of the same age range in the D-LAH group (P <
0.05). Also there were no significant differences in the rates of implantation, clinical
pregnancies and miscarriages in patients aged ≥35 between the two groups.
Conclusion: the available data in our study suggested that no significant differences between
both techniques of LAH (thinning versus drilling) in improving IVF outcomes regardless of
maternal age using either fresh embryos or frozen embryos for transfer. Further study is
necessary to confirm these results in a larger population
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
