Summary, etc. | The study implemented a computational simulation framework for photoacoustic imaging, with a primary focus on assessing its potential for detecting and characterizing plaques associated with peripheral arterial diseases (PADs), as well as offering insights into optimal imaging settings. The framework comprises two key components: a schema for generating realistic tissue models reflective of PAD cases, and another schema for simulating the photoacoustic process through the integration of Mesh-based Monte-Carlo (MMC) and Finite Element Method (FEM). Within meshes of generated tissue models, MMC simulates photons scattering, and FEM addresses systems of partial differential equations governing bio-heat transfer, elastic materials mechanics, and acoustics. Leveraging our framework, we systematically analyzed various scenarios involving plaque characteristics and imaging settings to address inquiries concerning the utility of photo-acoustic imaging in the context of PADs. |
