| Summary, etc. | Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an episodic, chronic, multisystem, autoimmune disease characterized by a widespread inflammation of blood vessels and connective tissues. There is no cure for lupus, but medical interventions and lifestyle modifications can help control it. The seriousness of SLE can range from mild to life-threatening. Patients with SLE who get proper medical care and education can significantly lower disease activity and improve a quality of life. Aim of the study: The aim is to evaluate the effect of self-care instructional guide on selected outcomes among patients with SLE. Design: Non-Equivalent pretest-posttest time series control group design was used in the study. Setting: The study was conducted at the rheumatology and rehabilitation department in one of Cairo University affiliated hospitals. Sample: A convenient sample of 120 male and female adult conscious patients with SLE who fulfilled the eligibility criteria was recruited. Tools: socio-demographic and medical data questionnaire; the adopted systemic lupus erythematosus disease activity index (SLEDAI) and lupus patient’s self-care knowledge assessment test were used to collect data. Results: 45.0% of the study group and 46.7% of the control group are within age range between 20 < 30 years, 86.7% of the study group and 91.7 % of the control group were females. As for disease activity index scores; there was a significant statistical difference in SLEDAI between the study and control groups after implementing nursing instructional guide (χ 2 = 17.0 P = 0.001), also, there were highly statistically significant differences in self-care knowledge scores between the study and control groups at 3rd day and 3rd month after implementing nursing instructional guide (χ 2 = 91.7, P = 0.0001), (χ 2= 91.7, P = 0.0001) respectively. Finally, there was no statistical relation between disease activity index and self-care knowledge (r = -0.12, p = 0.17). Conclusion: The self-care instructional guide had a significant effect on the improvement of patients with SLE self-care knowledge and lowering the disease activity state. Recommendation: Regular implementation of instructional guidelines programs for patients with SLE to increase their knowledge and improve their quality of life. |

| Summary, etc. | الخلفية: الذئبة الحمامية الجهازية (SLE) هي مرض مناعي ذاتي مزمن ومتعدد الأجهزة، عرضي، يتميز بالتهاب واسع النطاق في الأوعية الدموية والأنسجة الضامة. لا يوجد علاج للذئبة، ولكن التدخلات الطبية وتعديلات نمط الحياة يمكن أن تساعد في السيطرة عليها. يمكن أن تتراوح خطورة الذئبة الحمامية الجهازية من خفيفة إلى مهددة للحياة. يمكن للمرضى المصابين بالذئبة الحمامية الجهازية الذين يحصلون على الرعاية الطبية والتعليم المناسبين أن يقللوا بشكل كبير من نشاط المرض ويحسنوا نوعية الحياة. هدف الدراسة: الهدف هو تقييم تأثير دليل التعليمات للعناية الذاتية على النتائج المختارة بين المرضى المصابين بالذئبة الحمامية الجهازية. التصميم: تم استخدام تصميم مجموعة التحكم في سلسلة زمنية غير متكافئة قبل الاختبار وبعده في الدراسة. الإعداد: أجريت الدراسة في قسم الروماتيزم وإعادة التأهيل في أحد المستشفيات التابعة لجامعة القاهرة. العينة: تم تجنيد عينة مناسبة من 120 مريضًا بالغًا واعيًا مصابًا بالذئبة الحمامية الجهازية والذين استوفوا معايير الأهلية. الأدوات: استبيان البيانات الاجتماعية والديموغرافية والطبية؛ تم استخدام مؤشر نشاط مرض الذئبة الحمامية الجهازية المعتمد (SLEDAI) واختبار تقييم معرفة الرعاية الذاتية لمرضى الذئبة لجمع البيانات. النتائج: 45.0٪ من مجموعة الدراسة و46.7٪ من المجموعة الضابطة ضمن الفئة العمرية بين 20 <30 عامًا، و86.7٪ من مجموعة الدراسة و91.7٪ من المجموعة الضابطة كانوا من الإناث. أما بالنسبة لدرجات مؤشر نشاط المرض؛ كان هناك فرق إحصائي كبير في SLEDAI بين مجموعتي الدراسة والضابط بعد تطبيق دليل التمريض الإرشادي (χ 2 = 17.0 P = 0.001)، أيضًا، كانت هناك فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية عالية في درجات معرفة الرعاية الذاتية بين مجموعتي الدراسة والضابط في اليوم الثالث والشهر الثالث بعد تطبيق دليل التمريض الإرشادي (χ 2 = 91.7، P = 0.0001)، (χ 2 = 91.7، P = 0.0001) على التوالي. أخيرًا، لم تُلاحظ أي علاقة إحصائية بين مؤشر نشاط المرض ومعرفة الرعاية الذاتية (r = -0.12، p = 0.17). الاستنتاج: كان لدليل الرعاية الذاتية الإرشادي تأثيرٌ ملحوظٌ على تحسين معرفة مرضى الذئبة الحمامية الجهازية بالرعاية الذاتية وخفض حالة نشاط المرض. التوصية: التنفيذ المنتظم لبرامج الإرشادات الإرشادية لمرضى الذئبة الحمامية الجهازية لزيادة معرفتهم وتحسين جودة حياتهم. |
