Summary, etc.	Background: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is associated with symptoms that interfere with quality of life, additionally the available treatment options are linked with side-effects and patients’ dissatisfaction. Nigella sativa (N. sativa) is known for its beneficial effects on inflammation. Aim: The aim of the current trial is to examine the effect of N. sativa nasal oil drops on selected outcomes (severity of symptoms, sleep quality and patient satisfaction) among patients with chronic rhinosinusitis. Methods: A paralleled randomized control group design -prospective and open-labelled- was utilized involving 102 patients with CRS who were randomly assigned to either the control group which used the standard medical treatment only or the study group that received N. sativa nasal oil drops in addition to the standard medical treatment for four weeks. Outcomes were measured five times; once every two weeks for eight consecutive weeks using Sino-nasal Outcomes Test-22, Sleep Quality Scale and treatment satisfaction questionnaire for medications. Results: Trial’s findings revealed significant differences between study groups during and post-intervention assessments in means of severity of symptoms, sleep quality and all dimensions of patient’s satisfaction with treatment except satisfaction with side-effects and these differences sustained at the follow-up period which lasted for four weeks’ post-intervention. Furthermore, the main trial’s primary outcomes were nasal obstruction/congestion, postnasal discharge, facial pain/pressure and poor sleep quality where the relative risks were 0.70, 0.48, 0.42 and 0.56 respectively. Conclusion: It can be concluded that N. sativa nasal oil drops had a significant positive effect on symptoms’ severity of CRS, sleep quality and patients’ satisfaction so, it is recommended to be integrated with the medical treatment for those patients.

Summary, etc.	المقدمة: يرتبط التهاب الجيوب الأنفية المزمن بأعراض تتعارض مع نوعية الحياة، بالإضافة إلى أن خيارات العلاج المتاحة ترتبط بالآثار الجانبية وعدم رضا المرضى. تُعرف حبة البركة بتأثيراتها المفيدة على الالتهاب. الهدف: الهدف من التجربة الحالية هو فحص تأثير قطرات زيت حبة البركة الأنفية على نتائج مختارة (شدة الأعراض، ونوعية النوم ورضا المريض) بين المرضى الذين يعانون من التهاب الجيوب الأنفية المزمن. تصميم التجربة: تم استخدام تصميم مجموعة التحكم العشوائية المتوازية -المستقبلية ومفتوحة التسمية- لعينة تشمل 102 مريضًا مصابين بـالتهاب الجيوب الأنفية المزمن، تم توزيعهم عشوائيًا إما إلى المجموعة الضابطة التي استخدمت العلاج الروتيني أو مجموعة الدراسة التي تلقت قطرات زيت حبة البركة الأنفية بالإضافة إلى العلاج الروتيني لمدة أربعة أسابيع. تم قياس النتائج خمس مرات، مرة كل أسبوعين لمدة ثمانية أسابيع متتالية باستخدام إختبار الجيوب الأنفية ومقياس جودة النوم واستبيان الرضا عن الدواء المستخدم في العلاج. النتائج: كشفت نتائج التجربة عن وجود اختلافات بين المجموعتين أثناء مدة العلاج وبعده في شدة الأعراض ونوعية النوم وجميع أبعاد رضا المريض عن الدواء المستخدم في العلاج باستثناء الرضا عن الآثار الجانبية وهذه الاختلافات استمرت في فترة المتابعة التي استمرت لمدة أربعة أسابيع بعد انتهاء مدة العلاج. علاوة على ذلك، كانت النتائج الأولية للتجربة الرئيسية هي انسداد الأنف، رشح خلفي من الأنف، وألم/ضغط في الوجه، وسوء جودة النوم حيث كانت معدلات المخاطر النسبية 0.70، 0.48، 0.42 و0.56 على التوالي. لاستنتاج: يمكن الاستنتاج أن قطرات زيت حبة البركة الأنفية كان لها تأثير إيجابي كبير على شدة أعراض إلتهاب الجيوب الأنفية جودة النوم ورضا المرضى، لذا يوصى بدمجها مع العلاج الطبي لهؤلاء المرضى.
