Summary, etc. Background: Timely adoption of EBM by clinicians is mandatory and achievable by incorporating EBM into medical curricula plus additional reinforcement of EBM knowledge and skills via training programs.
The house officers (HOs) should comprehend the EBM value and critically-evaluate clinical research at their career transitional point.

Aim: Evaluating the effect of EBM educational intervention on HOs’ KAP and skills.

Methods: 70 HOs (from 91 HOs were recruited); during the academic year 2022/2023 at Cairo University’s teaching hospitals, answered a pre-tested self-administered questionnaire before, immediately and 3-months after intervention. The intervention included 8 sessions along 2 full-days covering: EBM concept and importance, research methods, formulating answerable clinical question (PICO format), searching skills and critical appraisal concept.

Results: The participants’ mean age was 25.4±1.3 years, 41% were males; 69% heard about “EBM” and 41% participated in a research. The median score (Q1:Q3) for knowledge, attitude and practice before intervention was 69.3(66.3:74.7), 71.8(66.8:76.5) and 56.4(43.2:69.1) respectively. The intervention produced statistically-significant improvement in the median scores of knowledge and attitude domains at immediate and 3-months after intervention. The median score of practice domain showed statistically-significant increase at immediate after intervention. Before intervention 7%, 16% and 40% showed high knowledge, positive attitude and fair/good practice respectively. These proportions showed statistically-significant increase at immediate and 3-months after intervention. The median score for ACE questionnaire before intervention was 60(52:66.7) and increased significantly immediately after intervention.
Conclusion & Recommendations: EBM educational intervention can be an essential part in the HOs training program to improve EBM KAP among HOs.
