Summary, etc.	This study aimed to investigate Brown and Levinson’s (1978, 1987) politeness <br/>strategies in post-observation meetings (POMs) in a number of universities in Egypt <br/>examining both positive and negative politeness strategies. The study is an attempt to conduct <br/>an empirical investigation of how feedback is provided in POMs as well as how supervisors <br/>use advice and suggestion-giving strategically to mitigate face threatening acts (FTAs) in <br/>order to provide constructive criticism which is the main aim of such meetings. <br/>This study adopted a mixed-methods exploratory design that linguistically analyzed <br/>the politeness strategies related to advice and suggestion-giving during 42 POMs conducted <br/>by 10 supervisors in three universities in Egypt between 2017 and 2019. Based on Brown and <br/>Levinson’s (1978, 1987) politeness theory, both qualitative and quantitative data were <br/>collected through linguistically analyzing the politeness strategies. The linguistic expressions <br/>of advice and suggestion-giving related to these strategies were analyzed adopting Vásquez’s <br/>(2004) model. The frequency of the strategies and linguistic expressions were analyzed too. <br/>A questionnaire was designed for supervisors to respond to upon finishing the POMs to <br/>investigate their awareness and feelings, as supposedly more powerful institutional members, <br/>towards the politeness strategies they used. <br/>Data analysis revealed that supervisors manipulated almost all Brown and Levinson’s <br/>politeness strategies as well as all Vásquez’s linguistic expressions. The results revealed that <br/>supervisors were cautious while using these expressions with their instructors. The <br/>questionnaire findings highlighted that supervisors manipulated the politeness strategies <br/>intentionally to save the face of all participants for different reasons.

Summary, etc.	تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تقديم تحليلاً لغوياً لاستراتيجيات اللياقة الخاصة بإسداء النصح وتقديم المقترحات المستخدمة في المقابلات البعدية للملاحظات الصفية في عدد من الجامعات في مصر ، حيث تُوظَف هذه الاستراتجيات لتخفيف حدة الأفعال المستخدمة التي يمكن أن تظهر عند تقديم تغذية راجعة أثناء تلك المقابلات. تركز هذه الدراسة أيضًا على كيفية إسداء المشرفين للنصح وتقديمهم للمقترحات من خلال حرصهم على استخدام استراتيجيات اللياقة لتخفيف حدة الأفعال المستخدمة أثناء إسداء النصح وتقديم المقترحات في تلك المقابلات واللذان يعتبرا أهدافاً رئيسية للمقابلات. استخدمت هذه الدراسة المنهج المختلط الاستكشافي لتحليل نوعية استراتيجيات اللياقة المستخدمة داخل تلك المقابلات بجانب الخصائص اللغوية المستخدمة عند استخدام نمط معين لتخفيف حدة الأفعال المستخدمة أثناء المقابلات اللاحقة للملاحظات الصفية. وظفت الدراسة نظرية اللياقة في الحديث التي قدمها كلاً من براون وليفنسن عام 1978 مع تطويرها عام 1987 بالإضافة إلى نموذج فاسكيز (2004) لتحليل استراتيجيات اللياقة الخاصة بإسداء النصح وتقديم المقترحات في اثنتي وأربعين مقابلة قام بها عشرة مشرفون في ثلاث جامعات في مصر. تركز هذه الدراسة أيضاً على بحث درجة وعي ومشاعر المشرفين الذين يعتبرون أكثر سلطة ونفوذ من مدرسيهم داخل مؤسساتهم التعليمية تجاه استخدامهم تلك الإستراتيجيات من خلال تقديم استبيان مفتوح للمشرفين للإجابة عليه عقب الإنتهاء من المقابلات. وقد أظهرت نتائج تحليل البيانات استخدام المشرفين لجميع إستراتيجيات اللياقة تقريبا التي قدمها كلاً من براون وليفنسن أثناء المقابلات مع حرص المشرفين الشديد على استخدامهم جميع التعبيرات اللغوية التي قدمتها فاسكيز من خلال نموذجها. أما عن نتائج الاستبيان فقد أظهرت استخدام المشرفين لاستراتيجيات اللياقة بصورة متعمدة لحفظ ماء وجه المشاركين في المقابلات وذلك لأسباب متباينة.
