| Summary, etc. | Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a condition that causes a very strong urge to move the legs. The urge to move usually is caused by an uncomfortable feeling in the legs. It typically happens in the evening or at night when sitting or lying down. Non-pharmacological treatment of this syndrome involve using reflexology, cool dialysate, massage therapy and vibration therapy to alleviate this condition. Aim: to examine the effect of vibration versus massage therapy on restless leg syndrome on selected outcomes among patients on hemodialysis. Design: Quasi-experimental (pre/post) design was used. Sample: Purposive sample of 60 adult patients were divided randomly into vibration therapy group and massage therapy group; 30 patients /each. Setting: The current study was carried out at the hemodialysis unit in one of Cairo university affiliated hospital, Egypt. Tools: Three tools were utilized for data collection; I: Personal and Medical Background Information Form, II: The International Restless Legs Syndrome Study Group Rating Scale (IRLS). III: Pittsburg sleep quality index (PSQI). Results: The mean age among vibration therapy group and massage therapy group were (47.3±12.7), (50.1±14.2) respectively. 60 % of both groups were females. There was a highly statistically significant difference in the total mean scores of restless leg syndrome severity scores and sleep quality scores among the pre-intervention, two weeks and four weeks after intervention phases in both vibration and massage therapy groups (P = 0.00*). There was highly statistical significant difference in the total mean scores of the restless leg syndrome severity scores between massage therapy and vibration therapy groups(P =0.005*) while, there was no statistical significant difference in the total mean scores of sleep quality scores between massage therapy and vibration therapy groups after four weeks of intervention (P = 1.0). Conclusion: The study concluded that, both vibration and massage therapy were effective in reducing RLS severity and improve sleep quality while massage therapy was more effective in reducing RLS severity. Recommendation: vibration and massage therapy should be added as a possible non- pharmacological intervention in managing restless leg syndrome. |

| Summary, etc. | متلازمة تململ الساقين هي حالة تسبب رغبة قوية جدًا في تحريك الساقين. عادة ما تكون الرغبة في الحركة ناتجة عن شعور غير مريح في الساقين. ويحدث هذا عادة في المساء أو في الليل عند الجلوس أو الإستلقاء. يتضمن العلاج غير الدوائي لهذه المتلازمة إستخدام العلاج الإنعكاسي والغسيل البارد والعلاج بالتدليك و بالإهتزاز للتخفيف من هذه الحالة . تهدف الدراسة الى معرفة تأثير العلاج بالإهتزاز مقابل العلاج بالتدليك على متلازمة تململ الساق على نتائج مختارة بين المرضى الذين يخضعون للإستصفاء الكلوى. و قد تم استخدام التصميم شبه التجريبي (قبلي/بعدي).و قد شملت عينة الدراسة (عينة هادفة) على 60 مريض بالغ عشوائيا إلى مجموعة العلاج بالاهتزاز ومجموعة العلاج بالتدليك. 30 مريضا / لكل منهم.و تم جمع بيانات الدراسة بإستخدام ثلاث أدوات: أداة جمع البيانات الشخصية والطبية، أداة مقياس تقييم مجموعة دراسة متلازمة تململ الساقين الدولي (IRLS)، أداة مؤشر جودة النوم في بيتسبرج (PSQI). و أوضحت النتائج ما يلى: متوسط العمر بين مجموعة العلاج بالاهتزاز ومجموعة العلاج بالتدليك كان (47.3±12.7)، (50.1±14.2) على التوالى، كما أن 60% من المجموعتين كانوا من الإناث. بالإضافة إلى كان هناك فرق ذو دلالة إحصائية عالية في إجمالي متوسط درجات شدة متلازمة تململ الساق ودرجات جودة النوم بين مرحلة ما قبل التدخل، وبعد أسبوعين وأربعة أسابيع من مراحل التدخل في كل من مجموعات العلاج بالاهتزاز والتدليك (P = 0.00*). و ايضا كان هناك فرق ذو دلالة إحصائية عالية في إجمالي متوسط درجات شدة متلازمة تململ الساق بين مجموعات العلاج بالتدليك والعلاج بالاهتزاز (P = 0.005 *) بينما لم يكن هناك فرق ذو دلالة إحصائية في إجمالي متوسط درجات درجات جودة النوم بين مجموعات العلاج بالتدليك والعلاج بالاهتزاز بعد أربعة أسابيع من التدخل (P = 1.0). فى ضوء النتائج التى توصلت إليها هذه الدراسة ، وجد أن العلاج بالاهتزاز والتدليك كانا فعالين في تقليل شدة متلازمة تململ الساقين وتحسين نوعية النوم بينما كان العلاج بالتدليك أكثر فعالية في تقليل شدة متلازمة تململ الساقين. وبناء على ذلك تم التوصية بإضافة العلاج بالاهتزاز والتدليك كتدخل غير دوائي محتمل في علاج متلازمة تململ الساقين. |
