| Summary, etc. | This study investigated the similarities and differences between two music genres, American hip-hop and Egyptian Mahraganat, in terms of their themes and conceptual metaphors. The study data consisted of the most listened to 60 songs across 2020-2022, according to Spotify. Two corpora were compiled, and content analysis was implemented using AntConc software to detect the themes and then compare between them. Findings revealed there were five common themes, violence and gangsterdom, drugs and drinking, insults, money, and suffering and pain and two contradicting ones, condemning versus celebrating the neighbourhood and negative versus positive representation of women. Then the theory of conceptual metaphor (CM) (Deignan, 2005; Grady, Oakley & Coulson, 1999; Lakoff & Johnson, 1980) was employed to analyze the lyrics and identify the CMs in them. Findings indicated that the resemblance in the CMs between the two genres rose from common human elements, similar life challenges, concretizing some abstract feelings, or homogenous perception of some abstract concepts whereas the differences in the CMs between the two genres were attributed to the oppositions in the values and concepts of each culture. |

| Summary, etc. | بحثت هذه الدراسة أوجه التشابه والاختلاف بين نوعين موسيقيين شهيرين، هما الهيب هوب الأمريكي والمهرجانات المصرية، من حيث موضوعاتهما والاستعارات الإدراكية المدرجة في كلماتهما. تضمنت بيانات الدراسة ال60 أغنية الأكثر سماعاً خلال الفترة 2020-2022، وفقاً لتطبيق الموسيقى Spotify، بواقع 30 أغنية لكل نوع. بدأ تحليل المحتوى ببناء متنين لأغاني الهيب هوب والمهرجانات، ثم استخدم برنامج AntConc في التحليل لتحديد كلمات المحتوى الأكثر شيوعًا. ثم تم تصنيف هذه الكلمات إلى فئات بناءً على العلاقات الدلالية بينها. كشف تحديد الفئات المختلفة لكل نوع موسيقي عن الموضوعات الرئيسية السائدة فيه. وبعد عقد المقارنة بين هذه الموضوعات، أظهرت النتائج أن هناك خمسة مواضيع مشتركة بين النوعين الموسيقيين هي: العنف والعصابات، والمخدرات وشرب الخمر، والشتائم، والمال، والمعاناة والألم، وموضوعان متناقضان هما: إدانة الحي مقابل الاحتفاء به، والعرض السلبي مقابل العرض الإيجابي للمرأة. بعد ذلك تم استخدام نظرية الاستعارة الإدراكية (Deignan, 2005; Grady, Oakley & Coulson, 1999; Lakoff & Johnson, 1980) والتي تنتمي إلى المجال اللغوي المعرفي، لتحليل كلمات الأغاني وتحديد الاستعارات الإدراكية الموجودة في كل نوع. وأشارت النتائج إلى أن التشابه في الاستعارات الإدراكية بين النوعين الموسيقيين نشأ عن وجود عناصر إنسانية مشتركة، ومعايشة تحديات حياتية مماثلة، وتجسيد بعض المشاعر المجردة، والرؤية المتوازية لبعض المفاهيم المجردة مثل النجاح والاستخفاف. أما الاختلافات في الاستعارات الإدراكية بين نوعي الأغاني، فقد عزيت إلى التعارض في قيم ومفاهيم كل ثقافة. |
