| Summary, etc. | Two new palladium (II) complexes, namely [Pd(CAZ)Cl2] (1) and [Pd(3-AT)Cl2] (2) (where CAZ is ceftazidime and 3-AT is amitrole), were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and FT-IR, followed by gamma irradiation using Indian 60Co gamma rays. The study aimed to evaluate the complexes as safe and effective anticancer drugs. The inhibitory activity of both complexes before and after irradiation was evaluated against various bacteria and fungi strains. The antimicrobial properties of complexes were enhanced by gamma irradiation against (G+) bacteria and fungi. Interaction with DNA was investigated by UV–vis spectroscopy, thermal denaturation, viscometry, gel electrophoresis, and molecular docking studies. The calculated Kb reveals a strong binding interaction with DNA. The binding is likely via minor groove binding and/or electrostatic interactions. Additionally, spectroscopic and molecular docking studies indicate the excellent binding affinity of complexes to BSA. These strong interactions suggest that the two complexes could be potential targets for DNA and BSA in biological media. <br/>Furthermore, the in vitro cytotoxicity of the complexes against MCF-7, HCT-116, and normal HSF cell lines was examined using an MTT assay. Results indicate that the synthesized palladium(II) complexes could be classified as promising cell growth inhibitors against the tested cancer cell lines. |
