| Summary, etc. | In the last decade, fingertip-sized flying vehicles have emerged. This thesis presents 2D flapping wings under gust conditions using the finite element method. The aerodynamics are simulated with a FORTRAN code based on incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, allowing free vertical and horizontal movement of the body. The equations of motion are coupled with fluid flow equations, and the body's position is tracked using a modified polygon technique. To maintain a divergence-free velocity field, new shape functions were developed. The goal is to enable the flapping body to resist gusts by generating balancing forces. The results show significant success. |
