520 #3 - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Background: Studying the Night Eating Syndrome (NES) in obese patients is of paramount importance due to its significant impact on sleep quality, mental health, and overall obesity management. Understanding the connections between NES, sleep disturbances, anxiety, and depression allows for the development of more effective, comprehensive management that can improve patient outcomes and quality of life.
Aim: To improve the quality of life in obese adult individuals with NES.
Methods: A case-control study was conducted on 154 participants who were divided into 2 equal groups (each group included 77 participants): the obese group with BMI >30 kg/m2 and the control group which included normal-weight individuals with BMI =18.5 to 24.9 kg/m2. They were interviewed using a predesigned structured questionnaire, including personal, and medical history, sociodemographic data, anthropometric measurements, NEQ, PHQ4, GAD-7, PHQ-9, and PSQI questionnaires.
Results: NES was significantly more frequent among obese patients (mean ± SD =18.857 ± 10.065, p value=0.030) than in normal-weight individuals (mean ± SD =15.156 ± 7.2585, p value=0.030). The total PSQI scores were significantly higher among obese participants (P value <0.001). Obese patients had more severe PHQ-9 and GAD-7 grades than controls (P value <0.001). NEQ scores were significantly and positively correlated with PHQ-9 (r=0.520, p value< 0.001), GAD-7 (r=0.339, p value< 0.001), and PSQI score (r=0.681, p value< 0.001). In contrast, NEQ scores were significantly and negatively correlated with socioeconomic status (r=-0.163, p value=0.043) among study participants.
Conclusions: NES is more prevalent among obese patients. NES is associated with poor sleep quality, depression, and anxiety.
520 #3 - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
