| Summary, etc. | This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and molecular characteristics of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates from ear and wound samples of cats and dogs in Egypt, addressing its emergence as a zoonotic disease. A total of 75 samples, including ear and wound swabs from 27 cats and 48 dogs, were collected from veterinary clinics, hospitals, and shelters in Cairo and Giza governorates in Egypt during the period from January 2021 to August 2023. The disc diffusion method was employed to identify antibiotic resistance of MRSA isolates. Furthermore, The PCR test was used to detect the mecA virulence gene of MRSA isolates. Out of the 75 samples, 33 isolates (44%) were tested positive for Staphylococcus aureus infection and out of the 33 Staphylococcus aureus isolates, 17 (51.5%) were identified as MRSA which was detected by mannitol salt agar and then the ORSAB media as a selective media for detection of MRSA. Specifically, 75% (6 out of 8) of cat ear samples, 25% (2 out of 8) of cat wound samples, 33.3% (3 out of 9) of dog ear samples, and 66.7% (6 out of 9) of dog wound samples were positive for MRSA. PCR testing for the mecA gene was performed on 11 samples, and 9 isolates underwent disc diffusion testing, revealing that 7 out of 9 were sensitive to Gentamicin. In contrast, all isolates were resistant to Cefoxitin. These findings underscore the need for enhanced monitoring and control measures for MRSA in pet animals |

| Summary, etc. | استهدفت هذه الدراسة تقييم مدى انتشار وخصائص العزلات المقاومة للميثيسيلين من ستافيلوكوكاس أوريوس (MRSA) من عينات آذان وجروح لدى القطط والكلاب في مصر، مع التركيز على ظهورها كمرض ناشئ يُصيب الحيوانات. تم جمع 75 مسحة آذان وجروح من 27 قطة و48 كلبًا، من العيادات البيطرية والمستشفيات والملاجئ في محافظتي القاهرة والجيزة في مصر خلال الفترة من يناير 2021 إلى أغسطس 2023. تم استخدام طريقة الإنتشار القرصي لتحديد مقاومة المضادات الحيوية لعزلات MRSA علاوة على ذلك، تم استخدام اختبار تفاعل البوليميريز المتسلسل للكشف عن جين mecA المميز لعزلات MRSA. من بين 75 عينة، كانت 33 (44%) إيجابية لعدوى المكورات العنقودية، وتم تحديد 17 عزلة (51.5%) كعزلات MRSA، والتي تم اكتشافها من خلال وسط مانيتول الملحي ثم وسط ORSAB كوسط انتقائي لإكتشاف MRSA. . وبشكل محدد، كانت 75% (6 من 8) من عينات أذن القطط، و25% (2 من 8) من عينات جروح القطط، و33.3% (3 من 9) من عينات أذن الكلاب، و66.7% (6 من 9) من عينات جروح الكلاب إيجابية لـ .MRSAأكما تم أيضاً إجراء اختبار تفاعل البوليميريز المتسلسل للكشف عن جين mecAمن 11 عينة، كذلك تم عمل اختبار الحساسية للمضادات الحيوية على تسع عزلات باستخدام طريقة الإنتشار القرصي، حيث أظهرت النتائج أن 7 من 9 كانت حساسة لجنتاميسين في المقابل، كانت جميع العزلات مقاومة لسيفوكسيتين وأخيراً تؤكد هذه النتائج على الحاجة إلى تعزيز التدابير الإحترازية للتحكم في إنتشار ميكروب MRSA في الحيوانات الأليفة. |
