| Summary, etc. | Leather tanning is the pillar on which the leather industry depends in Egypt, but its greatest problem is the production of large quantities of hazardous waste. Therefore, a water treatment facility nearby would be of utmost importance in an industrial tanning complex. To help with developing the essential equipment for that purpose, it is vital to investigate the flow characteristics of tannery waste effluents. A dried sample of tannery waste was analyzed by X-ray fluorescence and for particle size distribution. Next, rheological measurements were carried out on the tannery waste slurry produced by a plant situated North of Cairo (Egypt) at temperatures ranging from 10℃ to 40℃ and three different solid concentrations: 20%, 25% and 30%. The results showed that all waste suspensions under all conditions of solid content and temperature behaved as shear thinning liquids. Flow indices of all suspensions generally tended to increase with temperature increase and solid concentration decrease. Activation energies for viscosity were correlated to an increase in solid concentration and showed a generally decreasing pattern with the increase of shear rate. The maximum pressure drop per unit length of a pipeline used to transport the waste suspension to the treatment unit was evaluated and found to increase with solid concentration and decrease with increasing temperature. Models were also developed to study the variation of shear stress and viscosity with changes in shear rate, solid concentration and temperature using artificial neural network modeling. These models showed good agreement with the experimental results. |

| Summary, etc. | تعتبر دباغة الجلود الركيزة الأساسية التي تعتمد عليها صناعة الجلود في مصر، ولكن تكمن مشكلتها الكبرى في إنتاج كميات كبيرة من النفايات الخطرة. لذلك، فإن إنشاء محطة لمعالجة المياه بالقرب منها سيكون ذا أهمية قصوى. للمساعدة في تطوير المعدات الأساسية لهذا الغرض، من الضروري التحقيق في خصائص تدفق مخلفات الدباغة. تم تحليل عينة مجففة من مخلفات الدباغة كيميائيا باستخدام اشعة التوهج السينية كما تم عمل توزيع المقاس الحبيبي. بعد ذلك، أجريت قياسات ريولوجية على معلق مخلفات الدباغة الذي ينتجه مصنع يقع شمال القاهرة (مصر) عند درجات حرارة تتراوح بين 10 و 40 درجة مئوية وثلاثة تراكيز صلبة مختلفة: 20% و 25% و 30%. أظهرت النتائج أن جميع المعلقات تحت جميع الظروف من النسب المختلفة للمادة الصلبة ودرجة الحرارة تصرفت بطريقة لا نيوتونية من نوع تخفيف القص .تميل مؤشرات التدفق لجميع المعلقات عمومًا إلى الزيادة مع ارتفاع درجة الحرارة ونقص التركيز الصلب. تم ربط طاقات التنشيط للزوجة بزيادة تركيز المادة الصلبة. تم تقييم الحد الأقصى لفقدان الضغط لكل وحدة طول من الأنابيب المستخدمة لنقل معلق المخلفات إلى وحدة المعالجة، ووجد أنه يزيد مع زيادة التركيز الصلب ويقل مع زيادة درجة الحرارة. كما تم تطوير نماذج لدراسة تغير إجهاد القص والزوجة مع تغير معدل القص والتركيز الصلب ودرجة الحرارة باستخدام نمذجة الشبكات العصبية الصناعية. وقد أظهرت هذه النماذج تطابقًا جيدًا مع النتائج العملية. |
