Summary, etc. Flexible soil-steel composite structures technology depends on the interaction between surrounding backfilling and the corrugated flexible steel plates. The thesis purpose is to investigate shallow buried large span Soil Steel Composite Bridges (SSCBs). A numerical parametric study is carried out using the PLAXIS 3D finite element program to explore several topics regarding the large span SSCBs performance. Firstly, the study investigates the effect of some site/construction circumstances on open arched profile SSCBs performance. Secondly, the study checks the impact of changes in profile aspect ratios and backfilling soil mechanical properties on large span SSCB performance. FE results reveal their effect on the induced arching mechanism and straining actions. Finally, the study checks the validity of existing design codes for large span SSCBs, where the results prove that they cannot estimate proper straining actions for large spans. Thus, the study proposed modified equations for calculating better-estimated straining actions.

Summary, etc. تعتمد الأنفاق المركبة المرنة بشكل أساسي على التأثير المتبادل بين التربة المحيطة والألواح الصلب المتعرجة. تهدف هذه الرسالة إلى دراسة الجسور المركبة من الصلب والتربة (SSCBs) ذات البحور الكبيرة. و ذلك من خلال إجراء دراسة عددية بارامترية باستخدام برنامج العناصر المحدودة PLAXIS 3D. أولاً، تم دراسة تأثير بعض الظروف الخاصة بالموقع / البناء على أداء النفق المقوس المفتوح. ثم تمت دراسة تأثير التغيير في نسب أبعاد النفق وخصائص تربة الردم على الجسور المركبة من الصلب والتربة ذات البحور الكبيرة. أثبتت النتائج تأثير اختلاف نسب أبعاد القطاع و خصائص تربة الردم على آلية التقوس و قيمة الأفعال المؤثرة الناتجة. وأخيرًا، تم التحقق من صلاحية الأكواد التصميمية الحالية للجسور المركبة من الصلب والتربة ذات البحور الكبيرة. و أظهرت النتائج أن هذه المعادلات بحاجة إلى التحديث لحساب قيم أكثر دقة للأفعال المؤثرة الناتجة على الأنفاق ذات البحور الكبيرة. ثم اقترحت الدراسة معادلات محدثة لحساب الأفعال المؤثرة الناتجة في الأنفاق ذات البحور الكبيرة.
