The morphometric traits, especially of the head and neck, are unique breed characteristics in Egyptian Arabian horses; nonetheless, their inheritance patterns and total body conformation attributes are not fully defined. Only few studies were perfomed on estimation of genetic parameters in Egyptian Arabian horses. The aim of the study was to investigate the influence of Arabian sires on trait inheritance and estimate genetic parameters such as heritability, genetic and phenotypic variance, and correlation among different traits. This study investigated morphometric traits in 91 purebred Egyptian Arabian colts, approximately one year old, at El-Zahraa Stud, all offspring are related to 13 sires. The study included body measurements, such as seven head measurements (head length, muzzle circumference, left ear length, forehead length, eye-to-mouth length, jaw length, and jaw width), three neck measurements (neck length, throat lash, and neck base circumference), and various body measurements from shoulder points to tail length, combining several circumference and girth analyses as chest girth and fore cannon circumference. Furthermore, 5 compactness indices and 9 balance indices were also calculated, where indices have a very important role as they are essential tools for assessment of horse conformation and offer essential analysis of breed traits. These indices calculated as percentage ratios of individual body measurements as they provide a more understanding of body proportions than measurements alone. The measurements were collected using calibrated measuring equipment. Results showed that there is significant sire effect on specific morphometric traits, which facilitate the selection program for specific trait improvement. In addition, the results of heritability help us to determine the traits which can be improved by selection programs. This study improves the understanding of Arabian horse breeding and selection, by focusing on the correlation between early-life measurements and adult conformation traits. Moreover, the results help us in determining the best suitable stallion to improve specific traits. In conclusion, this thesis provides significant suggestions for developing selective breeding techniques to preserve and enhance distinctive traits in Egyptian Arabian horses, which could influence breeding programs and early selection criteria leading to further better generations of Egyptian Arabian horses. |

تعتبر السمات الشكلية، وخاصة الرأس والرقبة، من السمات الفريدة للسلالات في الخيول العربية المصرية؛ ومع ذلك، فإن أنماط وراثتها وسمات تكوين الجسم الكلي غير محددة بالكامل. أجريت دراسات قليلة فقط حول تقدير المعالم الوراثية في الخيول العربية المصرية الاصيلة. كان الهدف من الدراسة هو التحقيق في تأثير الطلائق العربية على توريث السمات وتقدير المعالم الوراثية مثل المكافئ الوراثي والتباين الوراثي والظاهري والارتباط بين السمات المختلفة. بحثت هذه الدراسة في السمات الشكلية في 91 مهرًا عربيًا مصريًا أصيلًا، يبلغو من العمر حوالي عام، في محطة الزهراء لتربية الخيول العربية الأصيلة، وكل الأمهار مرتبطه بـ 13 طلوقة. شملت الدراسة قياسات الجسم، مثل سبعة قياسات للرأس (طول الرأس، محيط المخطم، طول الأذن، طول الجبهة، طول العين إلى الفم، طول الفك، وعرض الفك)، وثلاثة قياسات للرقبة (طول الرقبة، محيط المدبح، ومحيط قاعدة الرقبة)، وقياسات مختلفة للجسم من نقاط الكتف إلى طول الذيل، والجمع بين العديد من تحليلات المحيط مثل محيط الصدر ومحيط المدفع الأمامي. علاوة على ذلك، تم حساب 5 مؤشرات للاكتناز و 9 مؤشرات للتوازن، حيث تلعب المؤشرات دورًا مهمًا للغاية لأنها أدوات أساسية لتقييم تكوين الحصان وتقدم تحليلًا أساسيًا لسمات السلالة. تم حساب هذه المؤشرات كنسب مئوية لقياسات الجسم الفردية لأنها توفر فهمًا أكبر لنسب الجسم من القياسات وحدها. تم جمع القياسات باستخدام شريط قياس معاير من المعهد القومي للمعايرة. أظهرت النتائج أن هناك تأثيرًا كبيرًا للطلائق على السمات الشكلية المحددة، مما يسهل برنامج الانتقاء لتحسين السمات المحددة. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، تساعدنا نتائج المكافئ الوراثي في تحديد السمات التي يمكن تحسينها من خلال برامج الانتقاء. تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تحسين فهم تربية الخيول العربية واختيارها، من خلال التركيز على العلاقة بين القياسات المبكرة للأمهار وسمات التكوين للبالغين. وعلاوة على ذلك، تساعدنا النتائج في تحديد أفضل طلوقة مناسب لتحسين سمات معينة. وفي الختام، تقدم هذه الأطروحة اقتراحات مهمة لتطوير تقنيات التربية الانتقائية للحفاظ على السمات المميزة وتعزيزها في الخيول العربية المصرية، والتي يمكن أن تؤثر على برامج التربية ومعايير الاختيار المبكر مما يؤدي إلى أجيال أفضل من الخيول العربية المصرية. |
