520 #3 - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The refugees’ journey from their homelands to other countries constitutes a major part of their experience and existence as refugees. Little research has been done on the journey phase of refugees’ lives; therefore, this study aims to examine the journeys of the refugees, the various journeys that refugees experience both physically and mentally on their roads to new lands, which promise a new safe life for them away from the blood and fighting in their homelands. Most travel literature and research on refugee narratives treat them in the diasporic state rather than focusing on their journeys from their native countries to the promised ‘havens’ of Europe and America. There is hardly any work in this area of research that focuses on the journey narratives or the exodus although the statelessness of refugees in the liminal phase shapes their lives to a great extent. This study focuses on three novels: Dave Eggers's novel What is the What (2006), Refugee (2017) by Alan Gratz, and Mohsin Hamid’s Exit West (2017). While analyzing the journeys of the novels’ main characters in the light of the archetypal epic journey, the research also employs the integrated concept of ‘liminal nomadism’ to relate to the refugee experience.
520 #3 - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
