| Summary, etc. | There has been increased awareness of the importance of value engineering (VE) and sustainable development within the construction industry. Both subjects play crucial roles in realizing quality, reliability, and durability as well as enhancing performance throughout the life of a project. They also help improve service-related outcomes within budget constraints, achieve more efficient use of resources, and accomplish an optimum combination of whole-life cost and quality to satisfy the user requirements. This thesis reviews value engineering and sustainable criteria and explores conceptual linkages between the two that relate to achieving the best value over the whole life of a building project. It also suggests steps for applying VE principles and tools to help implement sustainable construction within the early stages of a project. This thesis also traces the belief that VE is an appropriate technique to diffuse sustainable construction principles among its team members. Furthermore, it explores the concern that many sustainable construction dimensions are already inherent as part of VE workshops, but the level of consideration differs from one workshop to another, depending on the knowledge of the team themselves. Moreover, the thesis concludes that the degree of integration between the two topics is relatively untapped due to a lack of information and understanding of the underlying concepts. The thesis also highlights a case study of the economic housing project in Egypt due to its importance and the importance of applying the principles of VE and sustainability, as it serves the broad base of society, and we still need more and more of it, and therefore increasing its efficiency while reducing the material cost is an important matter. |

| Summary, etc. | لقد كان هناك وعي متزايد بأهمية هندسة القيمة (VE) والتنمية المستدامة في صناعة البناء والتشييد. يلعب كلا الموضوعين أدوارًا حاسمة في تحقيق الجودة والموثوقية والمتانة بالإضافة إلى تحسين الأداء طوال عمر المشروع. كما أنها تساعد على تحسين النتائج المتعلقة بالخدمة ضمن قيود الميزانية و تحقيق استخدام أكثر كفاءة للموارد؛ وتحقيق مزيج مثالي من تكلفة الحياة الكاملة والجودة لتلبية متطلبات المستخدم. تستعرض هذه الأطروحة هندسة القيمة والمعايير المستدامة وتستكشف الروابط المفاهيمية بين الاثنين والتي تتعلق بتحقيق أفضل قيمة على مدى الحياة الكاملة لمشروع البناء. كما يقترح خطوات لتطبيق مبادئ وأدوات VE للمساعدة في تنفيذ البناء المستدام خلال المراحل الأولى من المشروع. تتبع هذه الأطروحة أيضًا الاعتقاد بأن VE هي تقنية مناسبة لنشر مبادئ البناء المستدام بين أعضاء فريقها. علاوة على ذلك، فإننا نؤكد أن العديد من أبعاد البناء المستدام متأصلة بالفعل كجزء من ورش عمل VE، ولكن مع اختلاف مستوى الاعتبار من ورشة عمل إلى أخرى اعتمادًا على معرفة الفريق نفسه. علاوة على ذلك، خلصت الأطروحة إلى أن درجة التكامل بين الموضوعين غير مستغلة نسبيًا بسبب نقص المعلومات وعدم تطبيق المفاهيم الأساسية. كما تسلط الأطروحة الضوء على دراسة حالة لمشروع الإسكان الاقتصادي في مصر نظرا لأهميته وأهمية تطبيق مبادئ VE والاستدامة عليه، فهو يخدم القاعدة العريضة من المجتمع، وما زلنا بحاجة إلى المزيد والمزيد منه، و ولذلك فإن زيادة كفاءته مع تقليل تكلفة البناء أمر مهم. |
