| Summary, etc. | The family, as a unit, is the basic and most important building block of society because it consists <br/>of individuals playing different roles in the development of society. Therefore, stable families with <br/>members who are highly “self-differentiated”—meaning they can distinguish between thoughts <br/>and emotions and act in accordance with their values, as described by Bowen—contribute to <br/>maintaining a stronger society. This benefits each individual in the family and society as a whole <br/>in return. This thesis aims to apply Murray Bowen’s Family Systems Theory (1940) to Ian <br/>McEwan’s The Cement Garden (1978) and Atonement (2001) and Naguib Mahfouz’s first novel <br/>of the Cairo Trilogy: Palace Walk (1956). This lens helps in the study of human interactions in <br/>the form of family and societal triangles. Both McEwan and Mahfouz have written narratives that <br/>are based on the interlocking relationships between different members of families and their <br/>respective societies. The selected texts, belonging to two different cultures, are chosen to examine <br/>the family as a unit in both East and West. Through the application of Bowen’s theory and its eight <br/>interlocking elements to the selected texts, the dysfunctions the families suffer from in the novels <br/>will be discussed in depth. This study will attempt to prove that analyzing the interactions of <br/>different members of the family and in society and looking at the family as one “emotional unit” <br/>(Bowen) will provide more comprehensive results than studying the character as an independent <br/>individual. |

| Summary, etc. | تُقدّم نظرية موراي بوين في النظم الأسرية إسهامًا مهمًا في مجال العلاج النفسي، إذ تقوم على مبدأ التركيز على الأسرة كوحدة متكاملة، بدلاً من التركيز على الفرد بمعزل عن محيطه العائلي. وانطلاقًا من هذا المفهوم، تسعى هذه الرسالة إلى تسليط الضوء على نظرية النظم الأسرية بوصفها مدخلاً تحليليًا شاملًا يمكن توظيفه في ميدان الأدب، وليس في العلاج النفسي فقط. ومن هذا المنطلق، تُقدّم الدراسة منظورًا مختلفًا لتحليل النصوص الأدبية من خلال فحص طبيعة التفاعلات الإنسانية داخل الأسرة وفي ما يُعرف بـ"المثلثات الاجتماعية". كما تهدف هذه الرسالة إلى إثبات صلاحية نظرية بوين للتطبيق على ثقافات مختلفة، من خلال تحليل روايات تنتمي إلى الشرق والغرب على حد سواء. ويتحقق ذلك من خلال مناقشة مفاهيم النظرية المتداخلة التي تركز على الأسرة النووية، والأسرة الممتدة، والمجتمع.<br/>ومن خلال هذه المناقشة، تتناول الدراسة ثلاثة نماذج أسرية مختلفة في ثلاث روايات تنتمي إلى بيئات ثقافية متباينة، بهدف إثبات شمولية النظرية وملاءمتها لفهم نماذج أسرية متنوعة في سياقات ثقافية متعددة. كما تسعى الرسالة إلى توسيع إطار النظرية من خلال إدخال بُعد النوع الاجتماعي (الجندر) وتحليل كيفية تأثيره في بنية الأسرة، ومدى إسهامه في تعميق مفاهيم النظرية.<br/>اما الروايات المختارة للتحليل فهيحديقة الأسمنت والتكفير لإيان ماك إيوان، ورواية بين القصرين لنجيب محفوظ، وهي الجزء الأول من ثلاثية القاهرة. إذ يعتمد كل من ماك إيوان ومحفوظ في سردهما الروائي على العلاقات المتشابكة بين أفراد الأسرة ومجتمعهم، وهو ما يجعل نظرية بوين أداة تحليلية ملائمة وفاعلة لهذا النوع من النصوص.<br/> يناقش الفصل الأول، بعنوان "الوحدة الانفعالية للأسرة" اول عنصريين من نظرية النظم الأسرية و هما "المثلثات" و "تمايز الذات" و اللذان يعدان حجر الأساس في تكوين وحدة الأسرة. إذ يُسهم هذان العنصران بفاعلية في تشكيل الوحدة الانفعالية للأسرة، وقد تم تطبيقهما على الروايات الثلاث المختارة. ومن خلال هذا التطبيق، يتم تسليط الضوء على الفرق في تأثير هذين العنصرين على بنية الأسرة في كل من الشرق والغرب. كما يناقش الفصل الفرق بين تحليل الشخصيات من خلال نظرية النظم الأسرية وتحليلها من خلال نظريات تركز على الفرد فقط، وبخاصة النظرية الفرويدي.<br/>أما الفصل الثاني "الأختلالات في وحدة الأسرة" فيتناول أبرز المشكلات و القلق العاطفي داخل الوحدة الأسرية و السبل الممكنة للوقاية منها. ويُنجز هذا من خلال تطبيق ثلاثة عناصر من نظرية بوين ترتبط بشكل مباشر بالاختلالات الأسرية، وتُناقش هذه العناصر من خلال تطبيقها على الروايات الثلاث، مع إبراز الفروقات في طبيعة الاضطرابات الأسرية في الشرق والغرب وطرق التعامل معها في كل منهما.<br/>و يأتي الفصل الثالث بعنوان "عوامل تؤثر في وحدة الأسرة" حيث يتناول عنصر "موقع الأخوة في الترتيب الأسري" كما طوّره بوين، ويستعرض أثر هذا العامل في تحديد الأدوار داخل الأسرة من خلال الروايات الثلاث. كما يدمج الفصل عناصر أخرى لم يتناولها بوين في نظريته، لكنها تؤثر في بنية الأسرة بشكل عميق، ويُناقشها من خلال تطبيق عملي على النصوص و من أبرزها: الجندر (النوع الاجتماعي)، حيث يتطرق إلى تأثيره المختلف في كل من الأسرة الشرقية والغربية. كذلك يناقش الفصل أثر غياب أحد الوالدين أو كليهما، سواء كان هذا الغياب جسديًا أو عاطفيًا، على الأطفال وبنية الأسرة ككل. وأخيرًا، يُسلّط الضوء على ظاهرة انعكاس الأدوار داخل الأسرة، مثل تولّي الابنة دور الأم أو الابن لدور الأب، وما يترتب على ذلك من نتائج على المدى النفسي والاجتماعي. |
