Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) is a highly contagious and notifiable viral disease primarily affecting small ruminants such as sheep and goats. The disease can cross the species barrier, making large ruminants, including cattle and buffaloes, susceptible to exposure in regions where they coexist with infected small ruminants. PPR is endemic in many countries, including Egypt, where mixed farming systems increase the likelihood of interspecies virus transmission. The study aimed to evaluate the seroprevalence of PPR virus-specific antibodies in buffaloes and cattle across seven governorates in Egypt. Additionally, it sought to identify potential risk factors, such as species, age, sex, and geographical location, associated with seropositivity to better understand the dynamics of PPR virus exposure in large ruminants.A total of 345 blood samples were randomly collected from clinically healthy animals, including 229 buffaloes and 116 cattle, cohabiting with small ruminants in seven Egyptian governorates. These animals were selected to represent various age groups, sexes, and geographical areas. The sera were analyzed for PPR virus-specific antibodies using a commercial competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (c-ELISA) kit, a standard diagnostic tool for detecting antibodies against PPRV. Statistical analyses were conducted to explore associations between seropositivity and variables such as species, age, sex, and location. The overall seroprevalence of PPR virus-specific antibodies was 8.116% (28/345) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) of 5.7–11.5%. Cattle showed a seroprevalence of 6.897% (8/116) (95% CI: 3.5–13%), while buffaloes had a slightly higher rate of 8.734% (20/229) (95% CI: 5.7–13.1%). Statistical analysis revealed no significant difference in seroprevalence between cattle and buffaloes (P = 0.555).However, in buffaloes, age and sex were significantly associated with seropositivity (P< 0.005), whereas location did not show a significant effect (P = 0.437). Older buffaloes (>4–6 years and >6 years) exhibited higher odds of seropositivity compared to younger animals (2–4 years), with odds ratios (OR) of 8.063 (95% CI: 1.835–35.42) and 8.716 (95% CI: 2.584–29.4), respectively. Female buffaloes were significantly more likely to be seropositive than males (OR = 4.347, 95% CI: 1.603–11.79).The higher seropositivity in older and female buffaloes may be attributed to cumulative exposure to the virus over time and the additional stressors female animals experience, such as pregnancy, lactation, and frequent contact with infected small ruminants. these study highlights the importance of large ruminants in the epidemiology of PPR. |

| Summary, etc. |
