| Summary, etc. | تستعرض الدراسة التباين في موقف الجيش الجزائري تجاه الاحتجاجات الشعبية بين عامي 1988 و2019. تستند الدراسة إلى الإطار النظري الذي قدمه زولتان باراني لتحليل العوامل المؤثرة في موقف الجيش، بما في ذلك تماسك الجيش، علاقته بالنظام السياسي، وخصائص الاحتجاجات نفسها. توصلت الدراسة إلى أن ضبط النفس الذي أبداه الجيش عام 2019 مقارنة بالقمع العنيف عام 1988 يعود إلى تماسك الجيش الداخلي، وكذلك التجربة التاريخية للجيش، لعبوا دورًا رئيسيًا في اتخاذه موقفًا أكثر ضبطًا للنفس خلال احتجاجات 2019. كما أن الطابع السلمي والشامل للاحتجاجات الأخيرة قد قلل من خيارات القمع المتاحة. تبرز الدراسة أيضًا أهمية العلاقة بين الجيش والنظام، حيث كان الجيش أكثر ولاءً للنظام في عام 1988 نظرًا للمكاسب والامتيازات التي حصل عليها، بينما كانت محاولات نظام بوتفليقة لتقليص نفوذ الجيش أحد الأسباب التي دفعت الجيش للتخلي عنه عام 2019. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، أظهرت تجارب الدول المجاورة وخبرة الضباط الجزائريين في الخارج تأثيرًا واضحًا على مواقف الجيش. |

| Summary, etc. | This study examines the Algerian army's differing responses to popular protests in 1988 and 2019, using violence in the former and avoiding it in the latter. Based on Zoltan Barany's theoretical framework, the study analyzes factors such as military cohesion, the army's relationship with the political regime, and the characteristics of the protests. The findings suggest that the army's restraint in 2019 was influenced by its internal cohesion and the historical trauma of the "Black Decade." Additionally, the peaceful nature of the 2019 protests limited repressive options. The study also highlights how the army's loyalty to the regime in 1988 contrasted with its eventual distancing from Bouteflika in 2019 due to attempts to reduce its influence. Finally, regional experiences and the international exposure of Algerian officers shaped the army’s response. |
