| Summary, etc. | Background: Disorders of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ)due to surgical tooth extractionhave a negative impact on jaw function due to pain and locking in the TMJ, causing patients to present with limited mouth opening or difficulty chewing.Purpose:This study compared between the therapeutic effects of cryotherapy and ultrasound on TMJ dysfunction(maximum mouth opening and pain)after surgical tooth extraction.Methods: A randomized controlled trial enrolled 40 patients diagnosed with TMJ dysfunction after surgical tooth extraction, aged 30-60 years. Participants were randomly assigned into two groups (n=20/group): Group A: Cryotherapy in addition to traditional physiotherapy program (deep friction massage, stretching exercises and jaw exercises). Group B: Ultrasound therapy in addition to the sametraditional physiotherapy program, all treatments were applied for one week, three times/week. Maximum mouth opening (MMO) was assessed using Boley Gauge Caliper and pain accompanying TMJ dysfunction was assessed using Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) at baseline, post treatment and follow-up after one week from treatment. Results: There was a significant difference (P<0.05) between cryotherapy group and ultrasound group in mean ±SD values of MMO and VAS (P=0.001) at post-treatmentand at follow-up after one week from treatment. This significant increase in MMO (P=0.0001) and significant decrease in VAS (P=0.005) is favorable in patients with TMJ dysfunction who had received ultrasound therapy group than patients who had received cryotherapy.Conclusion: Both interventions appear to be effective in improving MMO and pain in patients with TMJ dysfunction after surgical tooth extraction, but ultrasound therapy not only provided superior immediate improvement but also resulted in more lasting benefits at one week after treatment compared to cryotherapy. Adding ultrasound therapy to traditional physiotherapy program is crucial for the management of TMJ dysfunction after surgical tooth extraction |

| Summary, etc. | الخلفية: اضطرابات المفصل الصدغي الفكي لها تأثير سلبي على وظيفة الفك بسبب الألم وانغلاق المفصل الصدغي الفكي، مما يتسبب في إصابة المرضى بفتح فم محدود أو صعوبة في المضغ. الغرض: هذه الدراسة تقارن بين التأثيرات العلاجية للعلاج بالتبريد والموجات فوق الصوتية على خلل المفصل الفكي الصدغي بعد خلع الأسنان جراحياً. الطريقة: أجريت تجربة بشكل عشوائي ذات شواهد على 40 مريضًا تم تشخيص إصابتهم بخلل في المفصل الفكي الصدغي بعد خلع الأسنان جراحيًا، وتتراوح أعمارهم بين 30-60 عامًا. تم تقسيم المشاركين بشكل عشوائي إلى مجموعتين (العدد = 20/مجموعة): المجموعة أ: العلاج بالتبريد بالإضافة إلى برنامج العلاج الطبيعي التقليدي (تدليك الاحتكاك العميق، وتمارين التمدد، وتمارين الفك). المجموعة ب: العلاج بالموجات فوق الصوتية بالإضافة إلى نفس برنامج العلاج الطبيعي التقليدي، تم تطبيق جميع العلاجات لمدة أسبوع واحد، ثلاث مرات في الأسبوع. تم تقييم الحد الأقصى لفتح الفم باستخدام Boley Gauge Caliper وتم تقييم الألم المصاحب لخلل المفصل الصدغي الفكي باستخدام مقياس التناظري البصري قبل العلاج وبعد العلاج والمتابعة بعد أسبوع واحد من العلاج. النتائج: كان هناك فرق كبير (P<0.05) بين مجموعة العلاج بالتبريد ومجموعة الموجات فوق الصوتية في متوسط قيم الحد الأقصى للفم والألم (P = 0.001)في مرحلة ما بعد العلاج وفي المتابعة بعد أسبوع واحد من العلاج. هذه الزيادة الكبيرة في الحد الأقصى للفم والانخفاض الكبير في الألم كانت أفضل لدى المرضى الذين يعانون من خلل في المفصل الصدغي الفكي والذين تلقوا مجموعة العلاج بالموجات فوق الصوتية مقارنة بالمرضى الذين تلقوا العلاج بالتبريد. الاستنتاج: يبدو أن كلا التدخلين فعالان في تحسين الحد الاقصى للفم والألم لدى المرضى الذين يعانون من خلل في المفصل الفكي الصدغي بعد خلع الأسنان جراحيًا، لكن العلاج بالموجات فوق الصوتية لم يحقق تحسنًا فوريًا فائقاً فحسب، بل أدى أيضًا إلى فوائد أكثر استدامة بعد أسبوع واحد من العلاج مقارنةً بالعلاج بالتبريد. تعد إضافة العلاج بالموجات فوق الصوتية إلى برنامج العلاج الطبيعي التقليدي أمرًا بالغ الأهمية لعلاج خلل المفصل الفكي الصدغي بعد خلع الأسنان جراحيًا. |
