| Summary, etc. | Background: Previous studies have delved into the effects of such exercises on <br/>functional performance and quality of life (QOL) in hemodialysis patients. <br/>Physical activity especially cycling exercise has been shown to have various <br/>positive effects on HD patients. Some of the important benefits linked to cycling <br/>exercise include improvement in physical fitness, aerobic capacity, dialysis <br/>adequacy, quality of life, and reduced depressive symptoms. <br/>Methods: Relevant electronic databases were searched from 2016 to December <br/>2023. Randomized controlled trials focusing on intradialytic cycling exercises in <br/>patients undergoing hemodialysis were concluded. Two review authors <br/>independently screened articles and evaluated bias risks. Outcome measures <br/>related to intradialytic cycling exercises and hemodialysis patients and their <br/>effect on functional performance and QOL were extracted and summarized <br/>through qualitative and quantitative methods. <br/>Results: Five methodologically rigorous trials were selected for review. These <br/>studies investigated the potential benefits of intradialytic cycling exercise on <br/>functional performance, primarily assessed via the 6-Minute Walk Test (6MWT) <br/>and the Sit-to-Stand 60 (STS60) test. Quality of life was also evaluated using the <br/>World Health Organization Quality of Life Bref questionnaire. Intradialytic <br/>cycling offers several potential advantages for hemodialysis patients, including <br/>improvements in cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, and psychological <br/>well-being, ultimately contributing to enhanced functional capacity and quality <br/>of life. The integration of cycling exercise into the dialysis regimen may thus <br/>lead to improvements in both physical and psychological health, potentially <br/>resulting in better patient outcomes and overall recovery. <br/>Conclusion: Intradialytic cycling exercise improves hemodialysis patients’ QOL <br/>and functional performance. The current study shed light on the specific impacts <br/>of intradialytic cycling exercise. This systematic review highlights the benefit of <br/>merging cycling exercise intervention for individuals undergoing hemodialysis, <br/>ensuring the integrity and quality of research methodology, gaining deeper <br/>insights into the potential benefits of intradialytic cycling exercise, and offering <br/>valuable information to optimize the overall well-being and recovery outcomes <br/>of hemodialysis patients as a result, it should be considered an adjuvant <br/>therapeutic modality in hemodialysis patients. |
