| Summary, etc. | Healthcare-associated infections have increased due to the development of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) of Gram-negative pathogens (GNPs) and the development of outbreaks over the past two decades in Egypt. In this work, it was investigated how exposure to positive electric pulses affects the growth characteristics of Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae), a common cause of pneumoniae. Therefore, this study examines the impact of using extremely low frequencies positive square pulsed electric fields (ELF- PEF) and square pulses of magnetic fields (ELF-PMF) separated and pulsed electric fields followed by square magnetic pulses on treatment K. Pneumoniae. The impact of exposure on bacterial antibiotic susceptibility and cellular morphological structure was examined. The results demonstrated that K. pneumoniae showed the strongest inhibitory impact when exposed to 0.8 Hz PEF & PMF for one hour, resulting in considerable suppression and enhanced susceptibility to antibiotics targeting DNA, proteins, β-lactamase enzymes, and cell wall production inhibitors. Furthermore, the findings from dielectric relaxation and TEM revealed alterations in molecular structure and morphology. The aforementioned results indicate that treating K. pneumoniae cells with PEF & PMF at the specified frequency influences the cellular activity and structure of the bacteria, suggesting that this method could be promising for further in vivo applications. It was demonstrated that the characteristics of non-thermal quantum-sensitive targets, influenced by 0.8 Hz of ELF PEF and PMF, exhibit frequency-dependent modulation effects on the growth and development of K. pneumoniae. This effect is understood through the alterations in the structure of the cell's bathing aqueous medium and the modulation of the collective dynamics of intracellular water. |
| 520 #3 - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc.
