| Summary, etc. | Background: Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common chronic diseases that leads to life threatining complications if left untreated or uncontrolled. Patients with diabetes are more likely to gain infections, the most common type of these infections is urinary trcat infection which consequently leads to serious complications. Aim of the study: was to assess the urinary catheter routine care and urinary trcat infcetion among patient with diabetes mellitus. Research design: A descriptive exploratory design was used. Setting: Surgical, Neurology and Orthopedic departments in a hospital affiliated to Cairo University Hospitals, Egypt. Subjects: (a) sixity dult male and female patients with a confirmed diagnosis of diabetes mellitus on the first day of short-term urethral Foley catheter installation and presenting no signs and symptoms of urinary tract infection. (b) twenty seven nurses assigned to provide routine catheter care for the selected patients.Tools of data collection: Four tools were used: Tool (I): Patient Demographic and Medical Data Form, Tool (II): Nurses Demographic and Work Related Data Form, Tool (III): Urinary Catheter Routine Care Observational Checklist, Tool (IV): Urinary Tract Infection Assessment Sheet. Results: The study showed that all nurses didn’t prepare necessary equipment, secure the drainage tube to the bed sheet, and the majority of the nurses didn’t perform daily assessment for Foley catheter needs, provide daily perineal care according to hospital protocol. The most common manifestation of urinary tract infection reported among the patients was itching, and burning sensation around urethral opening. The infection rate between the patients was (66.7 %). Conclusion: The routine nursing care of urinary catheter in patients with diabetes was unsatisfactory. The most common urinary trcat infection manifestation reported by studied patients was itching, burning sensation around urethral opening, pain in pubic area. Recommendation: Provide periodic assessment of the urinary cathter care applied by nurses to improve their practice, as well as close monitoring of presence of any manifestations of urinary tract infection. Implementing training program regarding urinary cathter care and replication of the study. |

| Summary, etc. | المقدمة: يُعد داء السكري من أكثر الأمراض المزمنة شيوعًا، ويؤدي إلى مضاعفات تهدد الحياة إذا تُرك دون علاج أو سيطرة. مرضى السكري أكثر عرضة للإصابة بالعدوى، وأكثر أنواع هذه العدوى شيوعًا هو التهاب المسالك البولية، مما يؤدي إلى مضاعفات خطيرة. هدف الدراسة: تقييم الرعاية الروتينية للقسطرة البولية ونسبة الإصابة بها بين مرضى السكري. تصميم البحث: استُخدم تصميم وصفي استكشافي. مكان الدراسة: أقسام الجراحة والأعصاب والعظام في مستشفى تابع لمستشفيات جامعة القاهرة، مصر. المشاركون: (أ) ستون مريضًا ومريضة بالغين، تم تشخيص إصابتهم بداء السكري في اليوم الأول من تركيب قسطرة فولي قصيرة الأمد، ولم تظهر عليهم أي علامات أو أعراض لالتهاب المسالك البولية. (ب) سبعة وعشرون ممرضة تم تعيينهن لتقديم رعاية القسطرة الروتينية للمرضى المختارين. أدوات جمع البيانات: تم استخدام أربع أدوات: الأداة (I): نموذج البيانات الديموغرافية والطبية للمريض، الأداة (II): نموذج البيانات الديموغرافية والمتعلقة بالعمل للممرضات، الأداة (III): قائمة التحقق الرصدية للعناية الروتينية بالقسطرة البولية، الأداة (IV): ورقة تقييم عدوى المسالك البولية. النتائج: أظهرت الدراسة أن جميع الممرضات لم يحضرن المعدات اللازمة، ولم يثبتن أنبوب التصريف على ملاءة السرير، ولم تقم غالبية الممرضات بإجراء تقييم يومي لاحتياجات قسطرة فولي، ولم يقدمن رعاية يومية للقسطرة وفقًا لبروتوكول المستشفى. كان الاعراض الأكثر شيوعًا لعدوى المسالك البولية المبلغ عنها بين المرضى هو الحكة والشعور بالحرقان حول فتحة مجرى البول. كان معدل الإصابة بين المرضى (66.7٪). الخلاصة: كانت الرعاية التمريضية الروتينية للقسطرة البولية لدى مرضى السكري غير مرضية. كان أكثر أعراض عدوى المسالك البولية شيوعًا لدى المرضى الذين خضعوا للدراسة هو الحكة، والشعور بالحرقان حول فتحة مجرى البول، والألم في منطقة العانة. التوصية: إجراء تقييم دوري للعناية بالقسطرة البولية التي يقدمها الممرضون لتحسين ممارساتهم، بالإضافة إلى المراقبة الدقيقة لأي أعراض لعدوى المسالك البولية. تنفيذ برنامج تدريبي حول العناية بالقسطرة البولية وتكرار الدراسة. |
