| Summary, etc. | Purpose: to evaluate the effect of focused shock wave therapy on pain <br/>and elbow heterotopic ossification following burns. Methods:- Forty <br/>patients with elbow heterotopic ossification following burns participated <br/>in this study, they were selected from Kasr El-Aini(Cairo University <br/>hospitals and OM ElMasrieen hospitals(Ministry of Health). In this study, <br/>the patients were randomly assigned into 2 groups of equal number, 20 <br/>patients for each group. Group A ( Study Group): This group include <br/>twenty patients with elbow pain and heterotopic ossification following <br/>burns and they received Focused Extracorporeal shockwave therapy plus <br/>the routine medical care. ( Etidronate, 300mg, twice a day, for 7 weeks ) . <br/>Group B (Control Group): This group include twenty patients with <br/>elbow pain and heterotopic ossification following burns and they <br/>received only the routine medical care . Treatment consisted of 7 brief, <br/>non-invasive applications were given over 7 weeks, Each EWST <br/>treatment consisted of 3500 pulses at 4 Hz with an energy flux density in <br/>the range of 0.03 to 0.36 mJ/mm2 . Evaluation: Visual analogue scale <br/>(VAS) and Computed tomography Scan (CTS) according to the Della <br/>Valle classification system. Results and conclusion:- Results showed a <br/>highly significant reduction in VAS but in spite of the occurrence of <br/>improvement in some cases of the second records of CTS in grades in the <br/>ESWT group, there was non-significant difference from the statistical <br/>point of view, between both groups. <br/>Conclusion : An application of the focused shock wave therapy on pain <br/>and elbow heterotopic ossification following burns had only a minimal <br/>effect on some of the patients tested. |

| Summary, etc. | هدفت هذه الدراسة إلي تحديد تأثير الموجات التصادمية على الألم والتعظم متبدل المكان بالكوع فيما بعد الحروق. اشترك في هذه الدراسة أربعون مريضا من الذين يعانون من الألم والتعظم متبدل المكان بالكوع فيما بعد الحروق ، وكانت أعمارهم تتراوح من 20سنة –35سنة. ولقد تم تقسيمهم إلي مجموعتين متساويتين في العدد، حيث تلقوا العلاج بالموجات التصادمية بالإضافة إلى الرعاية الطبية التقليدية بالمجموعة الاولى والرعاية الطبية التقليدية فقط بالمجموعة الثانية. وتم استخدام جهاز العلاج بالموجات التصادمية لإعطاء العلاج المذكور سابقا، تم إعطاء العلاج بالموجات التصادمية على شكل 7 جلسات قصيرة على مدى سبعة اسابيع (3500 نبضة-4 هيرتز لكل جلسة). ولقد تم تقدير مقياس التشابه البصرى للألم والتصوير المقطعى المحوسب طبقا لتصنيف ديلا فالى للتعظم متبدل المكان بالكوع قبل وبعد العلاج، ولقد أظهرت النتائج أن هناك نقص ذو دلالة إحصائية عالية فى متوسطات مقياس التشابه البصرى للألم بعد تطبيق العلاج بالموجات التصادمية فى بالمجموعة الأولى بعد الاسبوع السابع من إجراءالعلاج بالموجات التصادمية.لكن وعلى الرغم من حدوث تحسن فى القراءة الثانية بعد الاسبوع السابع لبعض حالات التصوير المقطعى المحوسب طبقا لتصنيف ديلا فالى للتعظم متبدل المكان بالكوع الا انه لم يكن هناك فروق كبيرة ذات دلالة إحصائية بين المجموعتين. |
